One of my not-quite developed thoughts at the moment is that originalist methodology violates the 14th amendment if it fails to include writings and thought from marginalized people.
There's something really interesting going on here methodologically in Justice Jackson's Medina v. Planned Parenthood dissent. You can see it in one footnote.

In short, Jackson is emphasizing that Black Americans are part of the original "public" about which "originalists" should be concerned.

Watch @timmiller.bsky.social on the Israel-Iran conflict: "There's one thing I do know, I wish that a genocidal maniac was not leading Iran and that a corrupt, indiscriminate, prime minister was not leading Israel and that a fucking moron was not leading our country."

this is a sith lightsaber, from the war. I keep it on a shelf right next to my stormtrooper armor and imperial officer’s uniform. I’ve even got a verified chunk of the death star from yavin. I’m just a collector. I just think the history is interesting. no, I don’t have any rebel stuff

What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders?

Most translators aren't taught how to translate, they mostly learn on the job.

BUT just because someone knows two languages, doesn't mean they can translate. It's still a skill one needs to learn.
What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders?

Unless you seek it out, most professors don't learn how to teach. It's not part of the job requirements. The idea is that you're an expert in your field and that's Enough.

Egyptologists don’t know every tiny detail of the ca. 5000 yrs of ancient Egypt. That’s why we have specializations! Language, art, archaeology, bioarchaeology, etc.

I mostly study New Kingdom period art, specifically the Amarna period

Rep. Randy Fine claims that President Trump was "assassinated twice."

Big, if true.

it’s easy to be committed to restoring the identity rights of #adoptees. all you have to worry about are a bunch of really bad arguments for the other side, plus a mountain of hegemonic public opinion shaped by 100 years of pro-adoption propaganda

The only bio family my child knows are because of 23andMe. People can scoff and claim we're stupid for using it, but if you don't know that alienation from your family lineage, you can politely go fuck yourself. This is a tragedy for adoptees and donor conceived persons who have no other options.
i would like to remind everyone who deplores the use of services like 23andMe that there exist people with hidden or secret parentage, including donor-conceived people and #adopted people like myself, for whom these services may be their *only* access to the truth to which they have a human right.

some of you need to think a whole lot harder about the differences between privacy, secrecy, and anonymity.

no one has a privacy right to keep my own identity a secret from me. My identity belongs to me.

people seem to care a whole lot about personal autonomy EXCEPT when #adoptees demand theirs.

For #adoptees like me, these services have changed our lives. We shouldn't have to worry about our DNA being sold and comprimised, but it's a risk we are willing to take. My life is so much better, knowing who I am and where I came from. If you never had to wonder who you are, you're privileged. 🥚

I had to submit my DNA to both 23andMe and Ancestry to find my birth family because the state of North Carolina won't release my OG birth certificate to me until the year 2078.
i am not defending companies like Ancestry and 23andMe. as always, i am denouncing the existence of systems and practices, like adoption and anonymous gamete donation, that deliberately conceal human beings’ parentage to suit the desires of others.
