Welcome all new BlueSky followers, I know some were followers from Twatter & others are new. So a brief introduction, I have been a lover of riding on 2 wheels since I learnt to ride a bicycle & further engrained when I started riding motorcycles. Due to disability I did stop cycling for a while

Three years ago, Utrecht completed the transformation of the Sint Josephlaan and turned an unattractive, unlivable car sewer into a green city boulevard.

It shows that even Dutch cities were not always like they are today and have often come a long way in becoming better versions of themselves.

I did a double-take walking past this thermoplastic sidewalk marking, then categorizing it as some sort of street art I didn't understand. Three doors later, I realized my error, that instead it marks where public sex work is legal.

Think of the public spending we could spend £s on. My personal favourite is £5 bn. p.a. on social care (amongst other benefits easing pressure on hospitals) - what's yours?

Newmarket MP Matt Hancock gave a £37bn Covid testing contract to Jockey Club director Dido Harding, who subcontracted it to Grand National sponsor Randox, employer of Tory MP Owen Paterson, whose late wife chaired Aintree racecourse. That's how the Tories handled the pandemic.

On the one hand, this parking lot has a 10 MPH speed limit. On the other hand, was this fire hydrant even wearing hi-viz?

Drove past this spot this evening and that chuffing car is still there blocking the cycleway. One for @yplac.bsky.social
On my ride this morning, I came across this parked car almost completely blocking NCN14. I just just about managed to scrape by. On the drivers side is a really busy trunk road with oncoming traffic.
Utterly thoughtless. I must start carrying a hammer or similar.

No, this is not a parking space.

(Police issued a Fixed Penalty Notice, but I'm not sure whether it was for the double yellows, or blocking the cyce lane, or both)

since the "google is now training gemini on your email contents" thing keeps bumping around here: it's _not happening_. I say this not to defend google but because I know a lot of people that have broken their filtering and made their lives much more annoying from sheer misinformation.
The malwarebytes Google opting-your-emails-into-ai-training thing is not true. The post is based on one bad tweet.

I know anti-tech lamenting is a Bluesky core principle, but please use the same judgement you would for any other clickbait.

Checked out this new development just south of downtown Des Moines, which appears to be following some new urbanist tenets (separated sidewalk-level cycletrack, townhomes with sidewalk frontage, hidden parking structures).

I propose that the Deansgate / Quay St junction is the worst ever junction to include protected cycling.

I honestly doubt you could have deliberately designed a junction with more conflict between users.

At some point, I’ll get a video showing just how bad it is.

When people either quit cycling or are put off taking it up altogether, it’s a complete failure of policy.

There’s a vast chasm of difference between how you’re treated riding on the roads in the U.K. compared to many European countries.
