Colombia

Colombia, officially the Republic of Colombia, is a country primarily located in South America with insular regions in North America. The Colombian mainland is bordered by the Caribbean Sea to the north, Venezuela to the east and northeast, Brazil to the southeast, Peru and Ecuador to the south and southwest, the Pacific Ocean to the west, and Panama to the northwest. Colombia is divided into 32 departments. The Capital District of Bogotá is also the country's largest city hosting the main financial and cultural hub. Other major urban areas include Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla, Cartagena, Santa Marta, Cúcuta, Ibagué, Villavicencio and Bucaramanga. It covers an area of 1,141,748 square kilometers and has a population of around 52 million. Its rich cultural heritage—including language, religion, cuisine, and art—reflects its history as a colony, fusing cultural elements brought by immigration from Europe and the Middle East, with those brought by the African diaspora, as well as with those of the various Indigenous civilizations that predate colonization. Spanish is the official language, although Creole, English and 64 other languages are recognized regionally. .. more

That Trump and Trumpism are fascist doesn’t explain the sheer vandalism of unleashing mass murdering mayhem via RFK to replace medical/scientific institutions of immense value and prestige with medieval peasant superstitions. That is a criminal madness facilitated by but above and beyond fascism.

We have a decades of scholarship on how pro-democracy forces win in competitive authoritarian systems: they form a united opposition that brings together people with otherwise profound political disagreements.

Old Soviet joke for today:

A man walks into a newsstand every day, looks around, and leaves.

After a long time of this, the owner says “Can I help you find something?”

“I’m looking for the obituaries.”

“The obituaries are in the back of the newspaper, comrade.”

“Not the one I’m looking for.”

Janeese is from what I can tell just about the only local political figure who is outspoken in opposing Trump's power grab and calling out the ICE abductions that are especially intense in her ward.

This is bad, but it will soon become a real question whether Trump critics would want protection from a Trump-aligned Secret Service.

Since federal agents started policing the streets of Washington, D.C., in large numbers, crime has fallen. But a review by The New York Times suggests that the operation has been more of a sprawling dragnet of arrests for minor offenses than a targeted crime-fighting operation. nyti.ms/4fZXcyl

Today in 2007 at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, munitions crews mistakenly loaded a B-52H bomber with 6 nuclear-armed Advanced Cruise Missiles, each carrying a live W80-1 warhead with a variable yield of 5 to 150 kilotons. The plane sat on the ramp overnight without any special security guards.

The erosion of basic principles like due process and the expanding use of our military on domestic soil puts the liberties of all Americans at risk, and should concern democrats and republicans alike.
