wrote this week about a topic there's surprisingly little coverage of in the United States even in think tanks focused on the Chinese military: the everyday lives of Chinese soldiers.

The consolidation of hospitals and doctors offices into healthcare "systems" is a terrible trend that unfortunately isn't going anywhere. See if this piece reminds you of a monopoly "health system" near you
When ProPublica’s @gingerthompson.bsky.social began talking to people in Albany, GA, she didn’t expect that they would be so fearful to criticize the town’s sole hospital on the record — or how powerless they were to hold that hospital to account.

Read our 5-part "Sick in a Hospital Town" series:
Sick in a Hospital Town: As Phoebe Memorial Grew, the Health of Albany, Georgia, Declined
The five-part series, “Sick in a Hospital Town,” pursues one question: Why are people in Albany so sick when its most powerful institution is a hospital?

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

The world’s extremely poor are also often extremely remote, with limited access to healthcare & health education. In many developing countries, the government—often with the help of the UN and, until this year, USAID—maintains health posts that bring these services to people living off the grid.
