Hey, I'm Zombie! Welcome to my page! :)

I'm a big nerd for urbanism and public transit advocacy, which is what I mostly post about. I live in Los Angeles and curate a number of feeds that pick up chatter about the city:
- 🌴Los Angeles Metro Area
- 🚉Urbanism - Los Angeles
- 🧊LA vs. ICE

“I think the system right now is designed to respond once something catastrophic happens, not when residents are signaling that something catastrophic is likely to happen,” one neighbor said.

The true thanks goes to @fema.monster for all of his work in curating and hosting the Urbanism+ feed and labeler!
This is really overdue but it's about time I recognize the folks who have volunteered their time to help moderate the feeds and run the U+ labeler @labeler.urbanism.plus

People seem to like this Sepulveda Transit Corridor rec more than I expected. I actually think it's kind of...bad? Feels like a decision made to appease the Sherman Oaks Homeowner's Association (and the NC) moreso than bc it's what the people want or bc it provides better service. #urbanism+

Our city is not only doing close to zero street maintenance, but they’re also slow walking Measure HLA implementation as a result.

Very sad state of affairs. This isn’t what the voters voted for.
I wrote something with @futureis about how LA has basically stopped maintaining its streets.

At this rate, the city is going to be one big pothole in a few years, and we’re going to spend more on settling lawsuits than fixing streets.

To avoid a legal obligation to make sidewalks accessible, the city stopped repaving streets in July and doesn't plan to resume.

LA has surrendered to the potholes: @michaelschneider.com and I have a piece in the LA Times today about how the city has stopped repaving our streets. (Also thank god for great headline writers at actual newspapers!)

Renting a Wombi e-bike for a month or two for funsies and I did a stress test with a big Costco run!

The people who say “but how will I get my groceries without an SUV???” have zero imagination.

Karen Bass's solution to avoid having to build bike lanes? Just stop repaving streets all together.
Why has the City stopped repaving streets? Oren Hadar tells me it’s to avoid complying with HLA and Federal law.

Brings me great pain when my 761 bus (one of the few remaining rapid lines) is a short, non-accordion bus 😭

After consistently breaking the law, losing in court, wasting its residents’ tax dollars, & embodying the worst of NIMBYism, Huntington Beach must do what I always said it must:

BUILD. MORE. HOUSING

We’re in a housing crisis

Do your part

Build your fair share

I insist
Judge Orders Huntington Beach to Adopt Housing Plan
The city now has 120 days to get a housing plan approved, and until they do, developers can largely approve their own projects.

The CIty of LA leaders are going to the bad place for shit like this smh
An illustration of how L.A. City Public Works so-called "Large Asphalt Repair" works (or really *doesn't work*). Today Bureau of Street Services left an un-resurfaced ~4-ft-wide strip on a 30-ft-wide part of Hoover... in order to avoid triggering curb ramps for wheelchair access

Happy Wednesday, folks! I’m spending my evening at a meeting of California NIMBY group Our Neighborhood Voices.

The topic? How to stop state housing bill SB79, which was signed into law, from actually being implemented!

The big draw is the special guest: the LA City Attorney's office. Yikes! 🧵
