Had a great conversation with @gregsargent.bsky.social about the latest Epstein emails and their implications for the current MAGA civil war.
Really unnerving point from Nicole Hemmer, historian of the right: Trump's Epstein fiasco could drive MAGA to push him to go even fuller authoritarian, because the whole project is now in such serious doubt. She's so good on MAGA's future.

In a 67-page 10-Q for Trump Media ($DJT), the risk factors account for nearly a third of the filing, which, trust me, is a lot. Gotta wonder how many of the folks who bought the stock even skimmed those risk factors. Stock down over 60% YTD.

Democrats, don’t let the word “socialist” spook you. I’m not Democratic socialist, but I’m damn proud to be part of a party big enough to hold all of us.

FACT: Republicans call every Democrat a socialist, It’s all they’ve got.

And, who doesn’t love that Republicans are having melt down over it.

"Speaker, on 5 occasions last week you said 'I haven't seen it' when asked about news events w/big implications for public policy. Do you ever read the news, and do you agree it's problematic for the Speaker to be so woefully uninformed?"

I remember every time Biden spoke about the positives of his economy he got reamed endlessly by pundits and posters about how terrible inflation was and housing costs, etc. and what an out of touch fool he was. Even though Biden always also said "but we have more work to do."
Trump's ballroom fiasco looks even worse against backdrop of bad economic news:

*layoffs mounting
*food stamps expiring
*health care premiums soaring
*consumer sentiment sliding

On the pod, Elizabeth Pancotti is great in explaining the opening here for Dems:

They're (again) stress-testing norms of democracy, in this case how long they can intentionally stall and undermine due representation.

And they'd only stress-test such a thing if they're looking to expand on the test in the future.

GOP’s refusal to swear in Rep-elect Adelita Grijalva is a continuation of Jan. 6 and GOP’s rejection of democracy. This is not just about blocking the release of the Jeffrey Epstein file. It's also about GOP becoming increasingly hostile to democracy deanobeidallah.substack.com/p/gops-refus...

Translation: no Democrat will ever be allowed, again, to gain control of the White House, House, or Senate.
Trump: "We can never let what happened in the 2020 election happen again. We just can't let that happen. I know Kash is working on it, everybody is working on it. And certainly Tulsi is working on it. We can't let that happen again to our country."

The complete refuse to accept political differences and the total demonization of the political opposition is a toxic and dangerous brew. It looks to me as if many Democrats do not understand this is the agenda of the GOP and the right.
It seems Glenn Beck and his ilk are preparing their followers for two possible futures: a) permanent and complete GOP control of the federal government or b) massive resistance to a Democratic victory that will make J6 look like a garden party. One thing they’re not prepping folks for is democracy.

Our nation's federal employees are more than just numbers on a spreadsheet.

They make sure we have clean water.

They protect us from financial fraud.

They provide healthcare to our communities.

They make our government actually work for people.

Do not forget this.
