Los Angeles: hundreds of square miles of land with an incredible variety of terrain, unimaginably great weather, gorgeous native flora and fauna

Los Angeles Officials: Let's cover it in concrete
LA is building a new $1.5 billion freeway into LAX.

The very same airport where we just spent $2 billion on the people mover — actually, more like $3 billion, plus another $900 million if you count Metro's investment in the LAX station; so let's just say $4 billion — to make cars go away
Air traffic control
The LAX-pressway must be stopped

I LOVE it when (white) men take credit for women’s work. IT IS SO COOL.

for the record, this is how the @nytimes.com covered Bloomberg, a man elected to the same office as Katie Wilson with the exact same amount of experience in public office as Katie Wilson, but whom the paper did not view with obvious contempt www.nytimes.com/2001/11/07/n...

In this paragraph, we have a heartbreakingly bleak portrait of American society as it actually exists.

Climate effects aside, just the sheer scale of our emissions are astounding. Humanity makes more CO2 every year than all other materials we produce combined
1) Fossil fuel
Still no peak. Emissions are projected to increase by 1.1% in 2025, reaching 38.1 GtCO2. An all time high.

explained that police have no duty to protect people because their only job is to protect property rights, and an order of protection was "not the sort of 'entitlement' out of which a property interest is created." The right to be protected from harm by police, wrote Scalia,

Getting annoyed listening to charter school activists lie again and again that charter schools are public schools.

They are not.

They are publicly funded private schools that siphon money away from public schools and produce no better results.

Yes let's put these things on the 10 and the 405. Waymo sucks and they're nothing more than surveillance cop cars posing as taxis that run over bodega cats

Very excited that our new newsletter (that I am proud to say I named 😏), a collab with @letterboxd.social called Crowd Pleaser is out now! Along with the visual branding for the project, I made a lil animation of Matthew Frank's road trip across the country visiting 58(!) different movie theaters. 🍿
As theaters faced their worst October since the ’90s, Matthew Frank visited 58 movie theaters in 28 states to hear from the people keeping moviegoing alive.
The first edition of Crowd Pleaser, our @letterboxd.social x Ankler series, is here: theankler.com/p/ghosts-in-...

Senate Republicans now say they’re open to extending a ACA funding IF Democrats agree to stricter abortion restrictions on insurance plans.

This is why you don't negotiate with terrorists.

As if I didn’t already dislike them enough, as if it wasn’t already clear how much of a scam they are, I am now getting spam texts from LA charter schools telling me to apply to secure my (nonexistent) child’s spot for the 2026-27 school year. Astounding levels of Bad Society Gets Worse

democratic voters wanted their party to shut down the government for myriad reasons — troops in american cities, masked thugs ripping families apart — but dem leaders insisted the wise thing to do politically was to stay hyper-fxated on this one thing, ACA tax credits. and then they just… gave up

The original Dem demands were:
1) Permanent ACA subsidies
2) Medicaid funding restored
3) No more blank checks for the regime (rescission)

They dropped Medicaid immediately. Went silent on rescission. Cut back to 1 year of subsidies on Friday. And surrendered today.

The Senate Democrats!

A "modest margin" when Mamdani beat his next closest challenger by 8 points in a three-person race. Trump won by just 1.5% and it was played off as a seismic realignment of American politics and culture.
