Only four #taxidermy bluebuck are known in #museums (Paris, Leiden, Stockholm, Vienna): the only large mammal species to become extinct in Africa in recent centuries. Bluebuck disappeared in ~1800.
(It feels weird to know I've seen them all - the only physical evidence of what bluebuck looked like)

Casper-based Kirkwood Oil and Gas successfully nominated leases in a restricted area where the parcels overlap with pronghorn and mule deer migration routes, and 'priority' sage grouse habitat.

BLM staffers and conservationists question why land use plans weren't followed.

The topic of migrating herbivores should be on everone's radar.

If it's not, then please watch this excellent video from Bill Sutherland and give the Wyoming Migration Initiative a follow @wyo-migrations.bsky.social

Restoring herbivore migrations will fix a whole heap of problems.

As part of today's historic return of ancestral land in the Sierra Nevada foothills and Central Valley back to the Tule River Tribe, the Department of Fish and Wildlife is helping reintroduce tule elk to the area.

It's a critical step in restoring balance to the lands and waters of their ancestors.

Last year, a WCS survey counted 300 there, beyond their
IUCN range. Recently, a follow-up confirmed that figure and we spotted foals—a great sign. 🌏
