Right? The assumption that we're all cringing cowards who will crumble into dust and blow away at the first sign of opposition, is quite remarkable.

this is the crux of it i think. i'm naive for not cowering in fear. if my grandfather had tried to vote for the first ten years of his adult life he could have been killed. i think i can deal with an ICE chud at my polling place.

I see we’re at the, “C’mon, the Alabama state troopers were really being treated disrespectfully at the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Also, a couple of them got scratches that day,” level of ICE apologetics.

ICE denied me entry into their detention facility at 26 Fed for my weekly, unannounced oversight visit, citing Sec. Noem’s "new" policy requiring 7 days’ notice.

A court has already ruled that members have a statutory right to conduct oversight, but DHS has concocted a bogus reason to keep us out.

there isn't a good reason why the DHS aprops bill should get a single democratic vote

I am at a vigil for Renee Good at St Mark's in the Bowery.

They handed out cards bearing the names of people killed by ICE in this second Trump era.

There are a lot of cards.

the thing to remember about all our stretch goals - Abolish ICE/DHS, court expansion, Nuremburg 2.0, etc. - is that even if we win the senate in what would still be an upset, none of it is actionable u til 2029. hell, Democrats aren't even motivated to be *honest* until 2028.
it's January 2026 and Abolish ICE - not defund - Abolish - is polling at -2 bsky.app/profile/mero...
I think some people will be tempted to read this as 'even murdering a woman can't break his hold' versus 'a net 25 point shift moved Abolish ICE from fringe demand to the verge of popularist mandate'

norms around perfidy are a key reason why combatants in global wars very rarely shoot down civilian aircraft that may overfly the area.

Hegseth and Trump 2.0 are trying to destroy these life-saving norms.

perfidy (concealing a military object as a civilian object like Hegseth apparently did) is both morally abhorrent and also puts EVERYONE in danger because it erodes existing and pretty-dang-effective norms around “don’t shoot at civilian aircraft.”

This YouGov poll on ICE is really eye-opening. Public opinion has really swung against DHS/ICE and their terror regime.

the "strategy" is: elect as many explicit abolish ICE democrats as possible. make ending the agency (and DHS) a litmus test for 2028. if you need to use "training" language to get voters to accept "eliminate and reorganize the agency" then that's OK.
Okay, taking you at your word, who is coordinating this strategy to make sure this actually results in dismantling ICE or DHS instead of kicking the can down the road or resulting in increased funding under the fig leaf of training? Who makes sure the on ramp doesnt remain a trap?
