A fact that I think about a lot is men in STEM in higher ed when they quit STEM tend to quit college. Women in STEM tend to transfer to another major.
If women are underrepresented in STEM, it's at least partly because men like this offer mentoring, then embarrass themselves by assuming their mentees must be into them, then decide the best solution is to cut ties, which sends the signal to other faculty that the mentee must not be good enough.
The emails have Summers reporting to Epstein about his attempts to date a Harvard economics student & to hit on her during a seminar she was giving.

Alice is the gold standard of what Twitter was when it was great - how you could just find these brilliant, remarkable people with the kind of voices that rarely get platformed or taken seriously, and hear about their lives in their own words without intruding on them or demanding emotional labor
Watching disabled people around the world mourn Alice is a reminder of the good aspect of the internet. 30 years ago, few people outside of SF would ever have known Alice existed. I never would have met her. The internet connected us all. Let’s honor Alice’s memory by using that power and community.
My social media is wall-to-wall love for the incomparable Alice Wong, and I need more words. What captures sadness and/also affection for a community that knows what's been lost?

People are roasting this lede, but NYM is actually correct to print it. Toilet paper is so scarce in prisons that it is sometimes used as a currency.

It shouldn't be restricted, for any person, but the fact that it isn't for her (and her alone) is a sign of extremely special treatment.
Apparently, Ghislaine Maxwell is living it up in prison with unlimited toilet paper. Here’s what we know about her alleged special privileges at her new federal prison camp in Texas.

Those of us who are SA survivors are used to the mass shrug in response to even the most overt evidence of horrific behavior. Epstein's crimes and the complicity of many influential figures involved have been known for decades (’05 to be exact). It's never mustered much interest or consequence.

NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

You know how some books seem like they were written just for you? SNAKE EATER by @tkingfisher.com is like that for me. It’s a warm, loving novel of a woman fleeing a dysfunctional relationship and finding more than she expects. Buy it, read it, love it.

Increase in productivity since 1979: 87%

Increase in hourly pay since 1979: 32%

Just so happens that ~25% of workers were unionized in 1979. Today? 10%.

As unions declined, the super-rich have taken a larger share of wealth generated by labor. We must build back union power.

First of all, a 15-year-old is not "barely legal." The age of consent in Florida is 18. So sexual behavior with a 15-year-old is rape.

Megyn Kelly is VILE trash for saying otherwise.

And Megyn Kelly is confessing to having insider information about what Jeffrey Epstein was up to but stayed silent.

Donald wants to bring hundreds of thousands of foreign students into the US to benefit from US universities because he thinks Americans are too stupid.

He's giving billions of dollars to Argentina.

He's training Qatari pilots in Idaho.

Do you finally see that "America First" is BS?

This could be a game changer for those of us who have 73 tabs open in 3 different windows.
ADHD crew, if you're looking for one tab in Firefox and can't find it and typing in the address bar produces no suggestions even though you KNOW it's there, put a % before your search. If it's really open, it should show up. I've been so frustrated trying to find tabs that I KNEW were open somewhere
