New — I wrote about how corporate media is immediately siding with power in the wake of Trump attacking Venezuela and capturing Maduro, and how journalists need to treat the administration as a hostile entity that’s openly lying to them.
Call Trump's power grab in Venezuela what it is
Corporate media must recognize they're being openly lied to—and report accordingly.

A reminder that the US killed 80 people in Venezuela, and it would be nice if the US media cared enough to think that the life of a grandmother in Caracas whose building is destroyed by a US bomb matters as much as the life of a person in the US.

This is heartbreaking. We should be ashamed, as a nation, that this could happen. Add it to the list of things we will need to build back, stronger and more resilient, on the other side of this fascist regime.

They said ending money bond would cause "the end of days".

What we actually saw during the second year of implementation in Chicago:

- 35% decrease in shootings.
- 36% decrease in robberies
- The fewest killings since 1965.

Chicago records fewest killings since 1965, despite Trump's campaign against city
Overall crime continued to drop as the number of murders in Chicago decreased from 587 in 2024 to 416 last year, when scores of federal immigration agents flooded the city and President Trump repeated...

This is so important & one of the most overlooked aspects of mobility accessibility in housing design. I can't tell you how often I've opposed plans in local meetings because developers don't give a fuck about this. If you aren't planning for visitors, you aren't planning to age in place either.
The term “visitability” refers to building homes in a way that allows those with mobility issues to be able to visit as easily as anyone else.

This accessibility design is cost-effective when built-in from the start and reduces social isolation related to being unable to visit family and friends.

Keeping the social safety net as small and as punitive as possible helps to ensure that there will always be a steady stream of people for employers like Bezos to exploit--people in such a precarious position that have no choice but to take whatever underpaid, overworked job they can get.
No. No. No.

Punitive processes make narrowly targeted programs *less* efficient and *more* costly. Because more scrutiny requires more bureaucracy.

Punitive processes also make it *less* likely that people will get aid for which they qualify. Because of the roadblocks and stigma scrutiny creates.

There's significant evidence from state legislative term limits that they do, in fact, empower both lobbyists and state executive branches.

"Disagreeing" without offering any counter-evidence is just vibes.
I disagree with the suggestion that term limits would further empower lobbyists and therefore we shouldn't consider them as a viable path forward. The current system of federal elected officials who are financially incentivized to become insider traders until they choose to retire isn't working.

This is not a new observation today, but it needs to be said as many times as possible...

Venezuela is Trump's Poland. We should have stopped him already (Iran, LA, Chicago, Charlotte, New Orleans, Minnesota, the boat strikes, etc.), but we MUST stop him now. He has no intention of stopping.
US President Donald Trump threatens to invade and attack other countries: “We have to do it again [in other countries]. We can do it again, too. Nobody can stop us." #VenezuelaInvasion

Trump didn't "take over" the GOP. He just made the fascism overt & normalized it in a way that other Republicans never felt comfortable goose-stepping out to say themselves previously. Make no mistake this all was there before Trump & will be there after him. He's an accelerationist, not novel.
I don’t think it’s inaccurate to describe the last decade of politics as “Trump took over the GOP” but the Venezuela gets at something important about the dynamic: the old players are still there, they just have to find stupid, convoluted ways to push their priorities

Moulton: "When we had briefings on Venezuela, we asked, 'Are you going to invade the country?' We were told no. 'Do you plan to put troops on the ground?' We were told no. 'Do you intend regime change in VZ?' We were told no. So in a sense, we have been briefed, we've just been completely lied to"

Impeachment is the beginning of accountability, not the end.

It's the most basic duty that a member of Congress has. Each member swears an oath to support and defend the Constitution. If they are not calling for his impeachment, they are violating the oath they swore.

Impeach, convict, remove.

This is how it's done. If incumbent Democrats won't do the job, their primary challengers can and will use this to make sure someone else does
The Republican Congress has chosen to give away its authority and power and now we are being told Trump plans to occupy Venezuela. We don't cry for Maduro. We demand the following of our laws and Constitution. He is already threatening Mexico and Cuba will be next. Ann Wagner is silent.
