climate action now!

These bitter truths require processing. Please, if you are distressed when you learn what is in this report, as I was, then don’t keep that distress to yourself. Seek help… Talk with a friend, meditate, take action; do what you need, to assimilate and cope with what is (coming).

🚨 BREAKING 🚨
The UK Govt has quietly published - without announcement - the Joint Intelligence Committee/DEFRA report it suppressed last October. They tried to sneak it out in the midst of crisis. Read and share:

Methane has caused roughly 1/3 of our warming to date.

Most of it comes from our food system.

And we need to fix this.
Methane has driven about one-third of warming to date 🔥 and is far more potent than CO₂ in the short term. Learn about solutions in latest Insights piece from Emily Cassidy, Research Associate and Paul West, Senior Scientist: https://bit.ly/3NqBEkx

While there is important work being done to reduce livestock footprints, the simple fact is people in high-income countries need to eat less beef.

All those who wrongly believe that nature collapse might be 'sad', but won't really affect them in any way, badly need to wake up.

Nature isn't just 'nice to have'.

Planet Earth is only liveable – for *us* too – due to the regulating effects of natural ecosystems.

In my opinion Citizens Assemblies were hoisted on us as a way for the government to delay politically difficult positions. They didnt expect them to be as effective as they were and in a panic they have undermined them ever since the 8 Amendment one. I want CAs with teeth. #spéirgorm
this is a hugely important point. despite the success of previous Citizens' Assemblies (mixed success to be fair) there is no assembly currently in progress, no news of any plans for one, and no mention of the concept at all in last year's Programme for Government
In contrast to New York's experiment in mass engagement, Ireland's commitment to citizens' assemblies is waning, according to Dr Seána Glennon.

I’m hearing echoes of it all the time in Mayo, especially regarding issues of housing, medical wait times, etc, little snide comments about “letting everyone in” or “look after our own” but people swear it’s not racism (notably said to me, a migrant, but of an “acceptable” pallor)
I'll never forgive the government parties for their anti-immigrant campaign. I can't go anywhere now without encountering someone who bought the rhetoric to some degree. It offers little comfort that these people also hate FFG. Jim O' Callaghan and Simon Harris are working hard for Aontú and II.

Lots going on right now, but this is worth repeating: the planet will keep heating up and the climate will keep breaking down until we phase out fossil fuels.

We should all want to phase out fossil fuels as soon as possible, I think!
2025 global climate highlights are out:

📈 2023-2025 is the first three year period above 1.5ºC (according to ERA5)

2025 was the third-hottest year ever recorded on Earth, data shows
The finding comes as the U.S. reverses rules meant to lower carbon pollution and walks away from international climate treaties.

The AMOC isn’t just losing speed but also becoming less effective at its job of moving heat. This "suggests the decline may not be a gentle, predictable slope, but an accelerating curve, with climate consequences that could arrive faster and with greater force than previous models suggested."
