Criticism and satire are vital parts of public discourse. Threats of violence are not. We've developed bad behaviors online, saying things behind screens that we'd never say irl. Joking or not, it's a slippery slope. This is about maintaining a space for fierce disagreement.

Another way of looking at this is if each of the US’s 19,000 cities, towns & villages had their own solar thermal plant, THE MEAN AVERAGE would be 2sq km or .77sq miles.

Less than a square mile doesn’t seem so bad, does it.
One ~182km x ~211km solar thermal plant could provide all of America’s electricity, including a fully-electrified land transport sector.

100% clean power from just 0.39% of U.S land.

That’s why renewables are constantly under attack from the fossil fuel industry and their paid mouthpieces.

I think people are unwilling to give the NYT and its staff the benefit of the doube because they [checks clipboard] have been able to observe and think about the NYT's behavior as an institution on virtually all issues for the last 20 years. Hope this helps
I was at NYT for 7 years & one of a dozen reporters who investigated Epstein’s interactions w/the rich & powerful. I don’t know every conversation held at every level there, but I do know we dedicated ourselves to exposing those who supported Epstein & engaged in the abuse of girls he facilitated

Eight Senators snuck in a MILLION-DOLLAR PAYOUT for themselves for being investigated for their possible involvement in the January 6th insurrection.

There is no money for healthcare, but there is money for a payout to Senators? This is fucken 🐂 💩!

Texas A&M is limiting how instructors may discuss gender identity and race in classrooms in an assault on academic freedom unseen in America since the Red Scare.

I keep seeing regular Americans taking more risks every day to fight tyranny, want, and cynicism than I see from the opposition party, and I imagine many of those regular Americans are asking themselves what the value proposition of such an opposition party is, really

"Fighting" is an interesting way of saying "caving for the promise of something that won't actually happen because the GOP never sticks to their word".

I'm starting to believe that somehow the Democratic leadership are even bigger quislings than the GOP.
Democrats have been fighting for months to address America's healthcare crisis

For the millions who will lose coverage
For people with cancer who won't get the care they need
For working families who can't afford to pay $25K more a year for healthcare

We will keep fighting

Anyway a great way to radicalize people is for them to realize that you just abandoned their chance at being able to access and afford health care because you didn’t like waiting in line at the airport.

Tuesday’s elections were NOT about the Democratic Party.

They were about candidates focusing on the wants and needs of their constituents; about new leaders prepared to fight; about representation in every sense of the word.

Party leaders haven’t absorbed this yet.

Also, and I say this with my whole chest: do not give establishment Dems a dime of your money. Not a CENT. Give that money to mutual aid, to food pantries, to your library, to the guy on your street corner. All of them will put that money to better use.

Do not give politicians your money.

Even more true today: Democrats are ripe for a base revolt like the GOP in 2015 when Trump went down the escalator.

How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

if you are food insecure for both the humans and pets in your household there is a tool called Pet Help Finder that can help locate pet food banks nearby and other free or reduced price assistance and supplies for pets.
no one, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, should have to give up their pet bc of this.

The world would be immensely better if more religions and their believers had even a tenth of the dedication the Sikhs do to doing good for people with no gatekeeping or expectations of anything other than "you are a fellow human in need and we can help you"
Folks, if you are hungry, please contact your local Sikh gurdwara. Or just show up for langar, which most gurdwaras do several times a week, for a free meal. Lots also do weekly or monthly drives giving out groceries.

No conversion necessary. Feeding anyone who is hungry is a key part of Sikhism.
A lady on TikTok has been calling churches pretending to be a mother with a baby who needs formula and several churches turned her away. But wouldn’t you know that when she called a Mosque (Islamic Center of Charlotte) they immediately said yes.

a joke policy position I’ve contemplated is all $ after x amount is seized by the state for public works/programs HOWEVER the state is then obligated to name every program/improvement after the individual who earned it. Just streamline the “Guy donates $ to get a building named after him” process.
The whole billionaire/trillionaire this is getting a bit ridiculous. We need a law that makes it illegal to possess more than a billion dollars. If you have more than a billion dollars, you have one year to give it away or the state seizes it and pays for people's healthcare.

New — While some states have received SNAP benefits for November and USDA is supposedly pushing through all federal payments soon, that doesn’t erase the psychological terror of the last few weeks.

I spoke with 20+ SNAP recipients in 16 states about preparing for a possible future with no food:
The voices of SNAP
Recipients have become political pawns. They explained, in their own words, what Trump withholding funds has been like.

OVER A MILLION USERS

DISCUSS SUICIDE WITH CHATGPT

EVERY *WEEK*

what the fuck are we DOING here
Panera’s moderately caffeinated lemonade was loosely associated with 2 deaths before it was taken off market.

This article alone has 4 examples of ChatGPT encouraging young people to commit suicide, and OpenAI’s own public stats estimate over a million users discuss suicide with ChatGPT each week.
I fully believe in the corporate death penalty and believe we would be a better world if OpenAI lost its corporate charter and was forcibly dissolved.

ICE/CPB thugs tackled a nonverbal autistic man outside a Family Dollar in Chicago’s Little Village claiming he was “noncompliant.”

Witnesses begged them to stop. “Why they beating up this special boy?” one worker cried. “He comes in every day for a treat. He has the mind of a child.” 🤬🤬🤬
