It’s a frigid -5 in Chicago at daybreak today, with vapor rising off Lake Michigan. Still beautiful.
This past week, I visited St. Raymond of Peñafort Catholic Church. (The suburban church hosted the funeral for a beloved 95-year-old, who passed peacefully in her sleep.) I don’t know when it was constructed — the ’60s? early ’70s? — but its relatively modern stained-glass windows are true stunners.

Two days ago it was Elissa Slotkin. Last week it was Jerome Powell. Before that, Mark Kelly. Weaponizing the justice system against your opponents is an authoritarian tactic.

The only person not being investigated for the shooting of Renee Good is the federal agent who shot her.
Breaking news: The Justice Department has issued subpoenas for Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey as part of an investigation alleging that they are impeding federal law enforcement officers’ abilities to do their jobs in the state.

In an extremely shitty week, I'd been looking forward to #TheTraitorsUS to provide some escape, but that premiere was a huge bummer.

If I were the awesome Rob Cesternino, I wouldn't go on another reality competition show without a guarantee that there won't be another Rob around to fuck it up.
Well that's enough of #TheTraitorsUS for tonight

I have never, once in my career, heard of a news org responding to a decline-to-comment with, “Well, we’ll hold it until you do.”

The reason is obvious — it gives the subject of your story a pocket veto.

One way that the reaction to Rob Reiner's murder mirrors Charlie Kirk's is that the best way to eulogize each of them is to quote their words, and in both cases, doing so pisses off conservatives.
Rob Reiner: “Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity. Speaking out is a patriotic act. Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It requires participation, vigilance, and courage from ordinary people."

instead of reposting that horrible screenshot of that horrible man's post, consider sharing the incredible stories about what sweet, thoughtful man Rob Reiner was and flooding the feed with them
When Rob Reiner was on his all-time epic run at the start of his career, he had an opportunity to read a script that was looking for a production partner, and he lost his mind for it. He decided Castle Rock had to have it, no matter what.
