This breaks me. I remember once a whole family - whose parents also were born in Mexico- stopped and helped me with my truck in the middle of nowhere. I’d have been fucked without them. I don’t get why people don’t want to live like this, our lives are so much more beautiful when we help each other.
Two female ICE agents popped the hood of their car and knocked on the door of a mechanic born in Mexico. He went out to help.

“A bunch of agents jump out and tackle him, essentially restraining him, and take him away...His six kids are now without their father." www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...
ICE drawdown? Indications point to steady enforcement activity outside the Twin Cities
Some people who observe ICE activity are skeptical about a large scale drawdown of agents in the state. There are indications that activity has decreased in the Twin Cities, but has continued outside ...

I think the actual solution to this is if you're a streamer and you want to go to China you have to spend a year as a migrant worker, we'll even get you a good migrant worker job and you can work at one of the Foxconn plants or some shit! You're an American you're

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed
Doesn’t speak Chinese. Doesn’t understand labor in China but is able to draw this conclusion because he’s a streamer and us lowly diaspora people aren’t

All the fascism and birthright citizenship stuff went out the window for a few shiny medals
From @theathletic.com: Vice President JD Vance does not seem to agree with Eileen Gu's choice to represent China, rather than the United States, at the Olympics. Gu, who was born in San Francisco, has won five medals for China, where her mother is from. nyti.ms/3ZJtaYv
JD Vance insinuates Eileen Gu should be representing the United States at Winter Olympics
Gu was born in 2003, and her mother, Yan Gu, is a first-generation Chinese immigrant. Her father is American.

this is another way to explain why I have spiritual objections to art created by AI - to love and respect art is to love and respect the human experience. art is an affirmation of life. people who don't respect human life are incapable of appreciating art
The decline of right wing cultural production is just due to the fact that they don’t like culture, they like the signifiers of culture, ie “classic sculpture means white people are better.” They don’t like art at all except for this purpose. They don’t even like the nerd stuff they whine about

I hope New Yorkers will challenge Mamdani about this. Too often, people feel they need to be absolutely for or against a politician — ignoring their missteps or throwing them out with the bathwater. You can like and/or believe in someone and still challenge them to deliver on their promises.

Shame on NYU Langone for ending gender-affirming care & kicking trans New Yorkers to the curb. It's a violation of their promise to treat all people equally, kindly, and respectfully — and a violation of NYC's human rights law as well. Bending the knee is bad; denying people care is even worse.

I remember when I had to convince my students that Charlemagne's political program of translatio imperii--pretending that he was reviving the legacy of ancient Rome in order to shore up his own power--has been a leitmotif of American imperialism since the 18C. Now I just have to point at a tweet.
There is no coherent historical legacy that directly links Athens and Rome to Christian Europe and the United States while leaving out the Islamic world. This is such ahistorical nonsense.
