Yeah, I’m sure folks are just busting out of Woodside and SF for the climate of Austin, Dallas and Houston…

Even billionaires have to go outside, and while the hill country has its own unique beauty, well, let me know how Dallas compares to surfing and Yosemite in the same day.
Billionaires are considering cutting or reducing their ties to California by the end of the year because of a proposed ballot measure that could tax the state’s wealthiest residents.
A Wealth Tax Floated in California Has Billionaires Thinking of Leaving
It’s uncertain whether the proposal will reach the statewide ballot in November, but some billionaires like Peter Thiel and Larry Page may be unwilling to take the risk.

Frank Sinatra was a vocal anti-racist. He fought racism with his actions, his words, and his money.

Actions:
Refused to stay at segregated hotels. Made sure Black artists got paid fairly.

Words:
Literally wrote an article in Ebony Magazine

Want some good contemporary performances of Beatles songs? Listen to Himay Patel’s performances on the soundtrack to Yesterday.

Not just another movie about the Beatles or fans. Yesterday was truly moving and fun and the music is great.

I really enjoyed watching Spinal Tap II today. Made me sad, but it was lovely to see the film shot in New Orleans, with a cameo from my primary school friend Bad Beth.

Very interesting vibe to the movie. Not slapstick. Better.

I remember seeing Pearl Jam at Lakeshore in 1993 or so. Memories.

Bari Weiss' reporting experience is summed up by the time the NYT bizarrely gave her the cushiest possible assignment - go to Australia and hang out and write about it - and she produced a story so bad and so wrong about basic facts of Australian life that it became a running joke there.

Kind of tickled I got to take my mom for a quick spin in a red Taycan GTS today.

I matted it from a u-turn and I think we both got stupid grins.

An incredible thread that will smack you in the face with the obvious.
I'm going to tell my favorite story again about reflecting the certainty of beliefs back at people who don't expect it.

A friend was one of the few Jews on faculty at a North Dakota University. Every year, his colleague in religious studies would invite him to come to his religious studies class...

For those who were politically aware in the 1980s & 1990s this was a particularly dramatic event.

At the time, this felt like the USA had "won" the Cold War after decades of conflict.

The new Russian Federation could at long last be our friends, or so we thought.

Let there be peace on Earth.
Tonight in 1991, Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev, President of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, resigned and peacefully ceded power to Boris Yeltsin as president of the new Russian Federation. The next day, the Supreme Soviet formally voted to dissolve itself and the 69-year-old Soviet Union.

Such a heartwarming story.

Father and son, united in lowest common denominator slop as entertainment, and bending the once-trusted bastions of news to their extreme right wing perspective.

Money. It’s what really brings people together.
Larry and David Ellison didn’t always have a close relationship, but now the father and son have formed an unusual tag team in their pursuit of major media deals. They bought Paramount this summer, and now they are hunting Warner Bros. Discovery with a $108 billion hostile bid.

Better than Trump, and still regressive.
