An expert panel without a single Black voice on it? I knew y'all thought we weren't smart. I didn't think you'd be so blatant. I didn't even see CAF representation despite having CAF players listed. Before you get mad at me for pointing it out, look within.
The ESPN FC top 50 is here and we need to talk about the sudden conflict of interest the league has created with the high-impact player rule.

With coaches and GMs weighing in on these lists, they can influence whether or not their players can get a bag.

Now that this is clarified it turns out Claudia Dickey does qualify as a High Impact Player, pretty much singlehandedly due to PTJ suffering an orbital fracture and missing the final international window this year
OK, so the league clarified that it's the Top 11 in *either* 2024 or 2025. Here's the list. Players highlighted in yellow qualify for HIP.

Even with this clarification, you've created a situation where Michelle Cooper was just 21 minutes from being eligible for a massive contract.

YUP. If there's any one thing that's true across sports -- all of them! -- is that there is a major officiating shortage, and a complete lack of accountability from coaches, players and fans on how their treatment of officials has helped create this shortage.

Raising the cap has always been the simplest solution. The owners will absolutely fight it because if you do it once, you'll be asked to keep doing it, but it's absolutely the right call.
BREAKING: The NWSLPA opposes the #NWSL's proposed "High Impact Player" rule. PA exec. dir. Meghann Burke tells @espn.com that the NWSL is controlling and interfering with which players can access a certain pot of funds. The PA's proposal is to raise the cap by $1M, the proposed "HIP" amount. MORE:

I see this argument made all the time and it's embarrassing for CCDH to keep making it, because it's a lie. Section 230, what they're talking about, does not give anyone a "get out of jail free" card. It simply puts the liability on the party who actually engaged in the violative behavior.

SOURCES: The #NWSL board has voted to approve a new star player fund—internally called "High Impact Player"—to allow teams to spend up to $1M over the cap with a much smaller cap hit for players who meet criteria.

Crucially: A change affecting the cap requires NWSLPA consultation. On @espn.com:
