Today I read @violetlucca.bsky.social’s piece on THE SHROUDS, Hunny the “extreme obsequiousness” of AI chatbots and how Cronenberg’s films are “extensions of what currently exists”. Have had this essay bookmarked for a while,& today of all days, I really needed it.

Disgusted that this doesn’t have more likes
In a lovely gesture that shows that it is never too late for reconciliation, Norman Podhoretz's shiva is being catered pro bono by Schnipper's.

Yeah I could watch a screener of a new movie. Or I could watch a bad VHS rip of something that aired on British television and make my soul sing.

I have a fraught relationship with the term “body horror.” Yet I couldn’t resist writing about it for @criterion.bsky.social: www.criterion.com/current/post...
Mutation as Metaphor: Body Horror’s Visceral Transformations
Classics of the genre—including Andrzej Żuławski’s Possession and David Cronenberg’s The Fly—explore the gory extremes of corporeal experience.

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.
Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?

NEW: I arrived in the U.S. eight weeks ago to report on how the administration’s immigration crackdown was playing out from the front lines.

What I saw Thursday was the culmination of ICE’s aggressive behavior.
