Hey folks, haven't been quite active here for few months (most probably forgot where they have last seen my name) due to some life stuff. Anyways, I'm doing a little name rebrand from Marz -> Vineta, and I'm super excited to participate in the community again!

One of the things I say at work is that a lot of ideas are only bad because they're in the wrong place, and simply moving them around can make them pop.

Think of it like a flip book that's out of order. It's nonsense. But if the images are arranged well? animation

quality isn't found in isolation
Excellent thread.

My tuppence: there are no bad ideas (when you're having ideas). Get everything out of your head first, be critical later. Because being critical, while important, gets in the way of being creative. Oh and 3 colours + rotational symmetry = fascist, always (via Michael Beirut).
A few times throughout my career, I have suggested some rather unorthodox solutions to problems, and it's turned out these solutions actually did work. The people who objected to them tended to be extremely "we can't do that, it has to be exactly the way it always was."

and here's the thing...

Optimist: cup half full

Pessimist: cup half empty

Game Writer/Narrative Designer: has the player drank from it at least once already and what is the overall state of the story progression? That’ll impact the glass. Thanks! :)

Pessimist: cup half empty

Game Designer: Press x to drink.
Optimist: the cup is half full

Pessimist: the cup is half empty

John Keats: Thou still unemptied beaker, fair and true!
Dost thou await a draft to top thee up?
Or wilt thou bid all plenitude adieu,
Leaving but sorrow in an empty cup?

A quote from Hyperion:
“You said seventy million were planned,” I said.
“Yeah, well, we changed our minds after Transline’s resident AI read it.”
I slumped lower in the flowfoam. “Even the AI hated it?”
“The AI loved it,” said Tyrena. “That’s when we knew for sure that people were going to hate it.”

This is exactly how I feel about it. We’re free to use the concept without the organization.

I was never attached to the month of November as a way to complete a large project anyway. Yesterday marked a new month. We can do this and find community somewhere else, like here.

if you want to write a novel in a month, you can. if you want to do it a different month, you can. if you want to set yourself arbitrary word count aims, you can. if you want to find other writers who fool around in the same genres and subgenres you do, you can. let yourself be free
