Saw a lot of headlines saying "wikipedia is embracing ai" being tossed around tabloids, and I'm pretty sure they were maliciously written to make you feel a certain way about Wikipedia. What's actually happening is that wikipedia is demanding payment for data scraping and the corpos don't like that.
Sure. AI companies have ALWAYS been training their models on Wikipedia content, which under the free and open access model is available to anyone — including AI companies. Agreements like these require AI companies to limit and offset the strain they place on Wikimedia infrastructure.

Good-ass idea. In January 2020, the CDC said not a question of if, but when, COVID spreads in the US, and that citizens should prepare a weeks worth of food in case of quarantine. I thought the grocery store would be swamped. It was dead. Nobody gave a shit until basketball got shut down in March.
I think we are getting close to the point at which the athletes on Minnesota professional sports teams should start refusing to take the field/court/ice

Something has to be done to underscore the national emergency we are in, because I still do not think corporate media gets it

I will be blind for life. I have fractures in my skull that they can't fix. They pulled a piece of plastic the size of a nickel out of my eye. I had shards of metal, glass, and plastic behind my eye and in my skull. They said it was a miracle I survived.

Would be curious to see a study in which a group of people (with a few minutes of training) try to spot AI writing/images, and their results are compared to AI detection tools. I'd be shocked if people weren't better at it.
AI detection tools that use AI to detect whether stuff is AI are, imo, a scam to get people who don't like AI to use AI. Sorry about that sentence lol. I am curious what other AI haters think about this though, especially teachers who find it useful.

Solidarity with the people of Venezuela. Solidarity with the people of yet another country that my country has made unilateral unjust war on. What a long list, what a grotesquely revoltingly long list. Impeaching Trump is the bare minimum here man. Bare minimum of legal action required

Agree so much. Seriously pursuing writing at all is downstream from reading a lot. The more I read the more I want to write, then I write and want to read more. An extremely not-vicious cycle that in no way leads to AI use. Can't imagine sticking a shitty computer middle man in there. AI corrupts.
Look, this person doesn't understand what process is and how keeping it writer-based supports style and narrative, period. Thus, several things she suggests harmless if AI-driven are actually harmful. Also, the fallacy that AI is inevitable belies evidence of a bubble 1/2 file770.com/erin-underwo...

Writing a piece about the disinformation in America as it relates to my local community fighting the data center they want to install here, and it's made me think of a Tim Rogers quote (Action Button Reviews on Youtube):

When I write I am always fretting about my very frequent use of parentheticals and "[statement], but..." sentence structure. Just a result of the way I think/write or a bad habit I need to break? It's particularly egregious when I attempt non-fiction.

Any Democrat who thinks it's appropriate to "find common ground" with the Republicans on issues like high school sports teams is negotiating with a political party that does not believe trans people should exist. This policy will kill people, so maybe stop wringing your hands about volleyball.

Just so I'm clear on this, computer memory has tripled in price because a bunch of it that hasn't been produced yet has been ordered to populate GPUs that aren't installed in data centers that aren't built yet in order to service a demand that doesn't exist to make profits that don't happen.

The data center they're trying to build near me is being proposed by an unnamed, third-party developer who signed an NDA (likely in violation of Oklahoma open meetings law) with the mayor and city council, and it DOESN'T HAVE A PLANNED USE. Madness. Thankfully the community is pissed and organized.
