Hi! I'm a nerdy queer writer w/ work in the anthology Traveling Light from Hugo-finalist podcast @worldbuildcast.bsky.social. A 2x Paralympian, I set a world record in 2004 & won a bronze medal in 2008. So far I'm the only US woman to win an Olympic or Paralympic archery medal in singles since 1996.
Sobbing. Not Alice. 💔
Speechless. Absolutely devastated. RIP

If you’re donating to a food bank, consider donating some respirators too!

Food banks will be overwhelmed and crowded.

Covid is still with us, still disabling and still killing.

Many folks are losing food assistance & healthcare.

A well fitted respirator can keep you healthy!

Already said, but the DS9 episodes with the Bell Riots come to mind...
Under Trump, the draconian future of homelessness policy is coming into focus: mass internment. Utah is building a 16-acre site to detain up to 1,300 homeless people inside locked "accountability centers." This is profoundly alarming.

A failing society is one that demands people starve in order to uphold arbitrary and socially constructed ideas of normalcy, value, and worth.

We need to reject the idea that anyone at all must work to "earn" the right to eat and live.
The people who need help are not the problem. It’s corporate greed. It’s an unwillingness to pay a living wage.

The ones who aren’t working are children, the disabled, elderly & unpaid caregivers. They’re people who can’t work through no fault of their own.

No one "deserves" to starve:

SNAP funding is set to expire at the end of the month, meaning 42 million Americans will go hungry. A large percentage of those on SNAP are disabled, and many won't be able to stand in a bread line.

Many seem to think #disabled people "should just work", but they don't understand/care that:

1. Workplaces systemically discriminate against us

2. We're often paid less than the non-disabled

3. Accommodations that would enable us to work are often denied

and it makes me mad.

New story day!

"Phantom View" is about a son caretaking for his father, and discovering a blurry person in all their family photos that he has no memory of. The same figure is in all his dad's paintings--and the figure may be in the house with them right now.

One advantage of e-books I hadn't considered:

Is there any sweeter feeling than recommending a book to someone who downloads it and begins reading it *within the hour* and says "it's so good"?

Because hot damn, those are some happy freaking brain chemicals! ✨

If you were at the No Kings events, please wear a mask for the next few days.

Covid is not over.

You can infect others before you feel symptomatic.

People are losing their healthcare. They’re losing their food assistance. They’re losing housing.

We need to protect each other.

If you can’t join a No Kings protest because you’re sick, disabled or it’s unsafe … please don’t feel guilty.

We can all contribute in our own way and not everyone can be boots on the ground.

Share posts. Attend virtual events. Trust that the community is fighting for you.

I say this with peace and love, but if you are contacting disabled people to do sensitivity readings and disability culture consults WITHOUT PAY, please rethink making that request.

Reminder that September is National library card month, so you should totally go get a library card! Yes, they have books, but many also have dvds, cds, video games, game systems, hot spots, streaming services, ebooks, audio books, park passes, museum passes, and more! Maybe it's time for a visit!

There’s discourse on Twitter abt bedrotting & normies not understanding what bedrotting really is (unwashed sheets, don’t get out of bed to shower, etc). Reminds me how even if you & a normie experience depression, being alienated & disillusioned from society means your exp with it is very different

We know it’s not always practical or feasible to mask in all situations, so we recommend focusing on three places - grocery stores, healthcare settings, and mass transit - that will make the most difference for you and for others, especially those who are immuno-compromised.
