That whole thread was longer than I meant it to be, but I've been thinking on this a lot. It's hard to say "I don't want this anymore" when you've spent 8 years with your world orbiting around it and 90% of your friends think it's the absolute dream everyone should chase.

But like...I don't want it

The hardest skill you have to master if you want to be a successful trad author is being able to look around at everyone around you getting mistreated and not show your discomfort because the people mistreating them are the same people you need to kiss ass to if you want to sell another book.

Congress is attempting to fast track KOSA and more than a dozen bills that would restrict internet access, censor speech and increase surveillance under the guise of protecting children.

Committee hearings begin tomorrow.
Lawmakers to consider 19 bills for childproofing the internet
KOSA is back, along with more than a dozen other bills that will erode free speech and privacy in the name of protecting kids.

Idk, man. It's cool that whales can talk and all, but I don't think I want to talk to whales. I don't love the idea of people trying to talk to whales.

I just don't think we need to open the door to people evangelizing whales. Whales don't need to be hit with beauty standards and marketing jingles.

I want to make a list of *short stories* (any genre) published by intersex authors in 2025 & hopefully going forward. I've been meaning to do this for a while, and I think now there are plenty of stories.

If you have some stories, let me know / if not, please repost to spread the word?

Thank you!

For an author:

"Oh, do I know any of your stuff?"
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

One of my biggest regrets of being offline for so long is that I read Hello Sunshine in that time and could not scream about it.

Not only is it probably the best book I read this hear, one of the best YA I've read ever, but it also healed something in me I thought publishing had irreparably broken.
Hello Sunshine is a horror mystery GN about a boy who comes back from bible camp to find out that his secret boyfriend, Alex, is missing after a very public mental breakdown. #comics

For me it's:
- Anticapitalism
- Individualism will kill us all
- People are not Good or Evil, we are shades of Morally Grey
- Moms/women in general are not inherently sweet & loving
- Labels are not limits, they're fallable attempts at communication
- Being horny is good, actually
no, you don't understand. That's my emotional support theme I almost always have some version of in my writing.

Hey, you goofy goobers! Bet you thought you'd seen the last of me, but after 3 months, I have returned!

I cannot deny that spending 90% of my time offline was actually amazing in almost every way, so I won't be as Here(TM) as before, but my account exists again haha

When I see people on here unknowingly join moral panics around child safety and technology, I think about how the future of this very platform hangs in the balance of this legislation that is designed to force us back onto big tech platforms. It’s not about the kids. It’s about all of us
bsky.app Bluesky @bsky.app · Aug 22
Unfortunately, Bluesky is unavailable in Mississippi right now, due to a new state law that requires age verification for all users.

While intended for child safety, we think this law poses broader challenges & creates significant barriers that limit free speech & harm smaller platforms like ours.

You gotta keep talking about the issue! Paypros havent reversed their policies on Itch or Steam yet! Keep talking about it, keep contacting influencers, news outlets and legislators about the issue! Keep it in the public consciousness!
Reading through hundreds of games journalism headlines from major outlets and revealing the gaming press has effectively stopped covering the paypro issue made me visibly mad on stream

People in our space need to start listening to Asian people when they tell you why media and games like Obojima are orientalist. And I don’t just mean white people.

Because a lot of my fellow POC are just as guilty about gleefully supporting culturally appropriative media as white people.

If you grab a free copy of either book, can you *please* leave a review on Amazon or B&N or some other retailer site? I currently have 0 for both books.

Goodreads & Itch reviews are nice but they don't aid in discovery. You *need* reviews on Amazon for your book to be discoverable.

This whole push from Webtoons to animate their originals makes me so painfully uncomfortable, partially because they're obviously using AI to do it but also because it defeats the whole point.

Comics are their own medium, not a gateway to easier animation.

Every artist deserves to be able to paywall all their art in a setup that would earn them a living wage, from an ideally financially-healthy supporter-base.

But we love art and communication and sharing so much we do it for free. Which has caused society (especially tech) to devalue art as labor.
