Julia Armfield was so right when she said "the ocean is a lesbian" and also "what is it with these lesbians and why are they all so wet?"

Two disabled autistic boys were murdered by their parents in Australia

I’m begging everyone to pay close attention to how the media frames this.

There’s a tendency to let the β€œbetter off dead” narrative creep in whenever disabled lives are lost.

Eugenics is everywhere & we must always call it out

"do it scared" this... "do it tired" that...
no one ever talks about the absolutely insurmountable "do it even though you're disabled because you shouldn't let your disability stop you!! no don't stop trying to overcome it, you're so sexy ahaha"

Happy book birthday to this excellent fantasy anthology I recommend all the time for its rich exploration of stories by disabled authors!

I think AI "artists" should just cutout the middleman and steal art from galleries if they wanna be thieves so bad. Step up! BE BOLD!!

JOYOUS NEWS there are, upon further conversations, at least 1 or 2 more disabled authors on the list!! πŸ’–πŸ’–
Still sadly only 6% but it is good there are more!!

🧡/ Putting aside the fact that we cannot achieve racial, economic, and gender justice without disability justice and inclusion, disabled authors should be on that list.

I KNOW we're writing brilliant stories with disabled characters. So where the hell are they!?

🧡/ The lack of representation, especially in genres like fantasy and romance, is problem.
We're often excluded from imagining ourselves in these stories, are seen as sexless, undesirable, unfit to be adventurers fighters, lovers.

Effort MUST be made to close the gap and uplift disabled authors.

🧡/ Statistically speaking, approx 25% of Americans, 21% of Aussies, and around 1 in 4 people around the world etc. is disabled.

Yet out of the 48 books/authors I looked at, only 1 (2%) have any kind of clear disability/condition.
And this visibility gap is the usual. This list isn't the first.

🧡/ Caveat: I could have missed something; I also don't expect people to disclose or feel entitles to know, and we can't objectively know this is 100% correct.

I looked into it because I'm sick of seeing disabled/chronically ill writers left out of lists like this, and I feel it needs to change.

🧡/ So, I dug into this list of most-anticipated Romantasy books releasing up to April, and it looks like:

1) Only 1 book has a protagonist with disability/chronic illness

2) There’s no reliable info that more than 1 author has disclosed a disability/chronic illness
