Trump Pauses Disbursements to Program Supplying H.I.V. Treatment Worldwide
Pepfar, which is estimated to have delivered lifesaving treatment to as many as 25 million people in 54 countries, faces a funding delay of as long as 180 days.

This is the one and only good thing that George W Bush did as president. It has saved millions of lives at very little cost. Why pause it—for a period long enough to cause major damage and death? Because you want (those) people to die.
Whatever you think of her politics, you have to admit that Gal Gadot absolutely cannot act.

this is not "everyone is twelve" theory. this is the slightly rarer but typically much more consequential "no one knows what lawyers do" theory
“I’ve been hearing that standards will be eliminated or severely cut back. Bari has told people that she wants to get rid of standards and is shocked that they have so much power. She also asked openly, ‘What’s the point of standards?’” one CBS source said.

an underrated part of this turducken of garbage is Elon posting an image of the Odyssey while discussing the Iliad, but it's all so terribly, terribly pathetic

I think the next couple weeks would be an ideal time for Democratic senators to stfu.

I half suspect that what happens in his addled brain is Trump barely remembering that taking out insurance is always (economically) irrational. Otherwise it couldn't work as a business. Then, since he has no concept of communality or other-interest, getting rid of insurance makes sense.

So my son eats a bowl of Barilla Penne pasta for dinner every night. He eats it plain - no butter, no oil, a little salt in the water. It's what he likes. Like blueberries, which I covered in May, we're concerned with what it means that access to some of the things he relies on may be difficult.

"What if an LLM (or some other system) becomes conscious*?" is such an odd question for me.
There are lots and lots of animals that we have no doubt are conscious and we hardly accord them rights comparable to humans.
Perhaps we should, but the same people never seem to worry about that.

I never once heard my grandparents, who grew up on near-subsistence farms, long for those old days.
it drives me actually insane to have people romanticizing subsistence agriculture as if that's not just playing russian roulette with your family's lives year by year, and that every single one of their ancestors would throttle them for suggesting giving up their email jobs

For what very little this is worth, Christie hardly portrays Poirot as a style icon. He's supposed to be anachronistic, yes, but also a preening buffoon, whose dye and wigs are recognizable by anyone.
Of course, she'd hardly appreciate a dandy.
