He/Him. Trans rights are human rights. Justice for Palestine. Trump sucks.
Some of the most important realizations of my life were prompted by Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged: greed is a disease; selfishness is unacceptable; competition is a social control method; and Rand is an asshole know-it-all teenager's idea of a deep thinker.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

They burn books they don't want you to read to protect themselves FROM you.

it's not that i ever doubted that being a barista was a skilled position, but my year-long effort to try to produce a half-decent latte at home has convinced me that a good barista is easily more skilled than virtually every c-suite executive on the planet

Me: Finally, this will fix my mood swings.
Brain: Sure, buddy, you've got this all figured out now.
Me: That doesn't sound encouraging.
Brain: What? I'm being fully serious right now. (reaching for a lever)
Me: This is about to suck, isn't it?
Brain: Let's find out together, pal. (pulls lever)

Ok, Kim Davis. You've tried your bullshit all the way to the SCOTUS, and they didn't even bother to hear you. You're done. Your fifteen minutes are years overrun, but I hope your infamy is perpetual. May your epitaph read: "Here lies a failure who tried everything to attack marriage."

50 years ago today, Lake Superior took 29 souls aboard the Edmund Fitzgerald, and the lake doesn't give up her dead.

RIP sailors. You're remembered.

If you ever needed more proof than this surrender by the Senate Democrats that they do not work for the people, then I don't know what would convince you. They might as well have their corporate sponsors' logos branded on their asses.

I would love to know what it is about the current government shutdown that's costing Chuck Schumer money. It's the only reason that makes any sense for why he's so hot to surrender to Dump right now after a blue tsunami last Tuesday.

Women ruined the workplace? Good, it sucked already. Office culture? Commuting? "Management by waking around?" GTFO with all that noise. Anything that isn't physical layer effort can and should be fine from home.

If you tell a certain type of person to do something, and they answer, "Make me," any response you give that doesn't make future failures to comply painful is going to get laughed at.

"Fund SNAP." "No." "I said do it!" "Or what?"
... "Or I'll tell you again more sternly!" Please be serious.

If we apply the term "social media" broadly to include things like newsgroups and bulletin board systems, then social media has enabled a life for me that would otherwise have been impossible.

My friendships? All but one of them at least started online.
My family? No.
My career? No.
It’s common to say that social media was a mistake. I understand that logic.

But in my local context I’ve spent this week in a lot of struggle I cannot speak of.

I’m comforted by the stars of hope on the far horizon, as here night seems without end.

Such stars form constellations to navigate by.

Remember this the next time some right-wing chud calls anyone a snowflake: they're so strong that you cannot resist, but so weak that they cannot stand being offended when hit by a flying sandwich.
Assault now. Injury, government says, isn’t the layman’s definition but the legal one. “Hit with a sandwich. Having a sandwich spiked on your chest. Is that offensive to a person of reasonable sensibilities? Certainly. We have an assault.”

Is a thing a thing on its own? Or must a thing have interaction to complete its thingness?
A hammer is made, then destroyed before ever being used to drive a nail. If a hammer never hammers, was it ever a hammer at all?
Is a thing a thing in itself, or is a thing only what it is considered to be?
