I don't know about the rest of you, but I want to live in a world where individuals are judged by their discrete actions, and not whole classes of individuals judged by the worst examples of their class.

So, to answer the original question: our fashion judgements are shaped by the semiotics of dress, which are in turn shaped by cultural history. This history casts a long shadow, but contemporary dress can change depending on how cool people dress.

Will court decisions hold them in check? Will new elections in 2026 and 2028 offer a solution? I certainly hope so, on both counts. But it's not unthinkable anymore that they won't, and that is worth thinking about very seriously.

Why is the same scrutiny not applied to the GOP? How has their plutocratic agenda advanced the interests of their supposedly working-class base? Trump’s major legislative achievement of his first term was a tax cut skewed heavily to the rich. His domestic policy this term is no better for workers.

SO much of the cultural and artistic nostalgia that society chases was just art made when people got paid to do it.
