Agriculture is only a tiny part of EU-Mercosur free-trade agreement
• EU tariff cuts on Mercosur-made meat will apply only to small share of European imports
• Real economic rationale of deal could lie in industrial and services trade, as well as mineral products

🚨Trump kræver "øjeblikkelige forhandlinger" for at købe Grønland. Han kalder Danmark "utaknemmelig" og siger, at USA ikke burde "have givet Grønland tilbage til Danmark efter Anden Verdenskrig". Minder om USAs militære magt i Venezuela. Mener Grønland er "ubeboet og uudviklet".

First statement from Macron:

“Tariff threats are unacceptable and have no place in this context. Should they materialise, Europeans will respond in a united and coordinated manner. We will ensure that European sovereignty is upheld. In this spirit, I will speak with our European partners.”

Tillad mig (igen) at opsummere argumenterne imod differentieret moms.

Og bemærk: Argumenterne handler ikke om hvorvidt differentieret moms øger eller mindsker uligheden, eller hvorvidt det påvirker tilskyndelsen til at arbejde.

Good Morning and welcome to another episode of regime change by the USA. The US seems to be militarily trying to get rid of Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro right now. There are reports of US ground forces in action. However, watch the Cubans too. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...

Ny analyse - EU's levestandard vokser meget hurtigere end USA's på trods af lavere vækst i BNP.

Hvordan hænger det sammen?

While no one disputes that Europe needs to do more for its defence, the focus on defence spending percentage of GDP won’t get us there. Indeed, making Europeans commit to an arbitrary spending target is the best way to keep Europe from reaching strategic autonomy.

My rant in the @financialtimes.com
Spending 5 per cent on defence doesn’t make Nato stronger
An arbitrary target won’t enhance members’ capabilities or co-ordination and encourages creative accounting

Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive.

No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief.

For those listening to this rant, those numbers are not tariffs. The European Union, e.g., has weighted average tariff rates of ~ 3% and arguably lower on US goods. So they are clearly including VATs and who knows what else? This false reciprocity is nonsense. For more:
