I don’t think I was ready for Spike in an ordinary suit and tie
Spike Lee just blessed Pope Leo with a custom Knicks jersey during his visit to the Vatican, just one week after the Pope was gifted a custom Chicago Bulls one.

Was at LAX today and thus restaurant was playing music videos on an array of six TV screens alternating with cable and I watched the Nirvana Heart-Shaped Box video on three separate screens interlaced with a Burger King commercial on the others and it’s one of the best films I’ve seen this year.

There is, unfortunately, only so many times you can bleat that you feel "unsafe" over transparent nonsense before people will stop taking you seriously. Which is going to be a major problem when we really, really need people to take us seriously! For the love of God, stop crying wolf!

It’s honestly been deeply depressing to see just how naked and vile the bigotry has been.
Boy Mamdani's race is really a vivid reminder that anti-Islamic bigotry is 100% accepted in US public discourse. People don't even bother dog whistling, it's just right out in the open.

That AI video Trump posted of himself flying around wearing a fancy-boy crown and dumping tons of shit on the American people is the most accurate depiction of his presidency we’ve yet seen. Gotta give the man credit for understanding himself and his effect on the citizenry.

I wonder if there’s anyone in the Democratic Party organization who recognizes that literally just this would be a winning message.
i’m running for president in 2028, this is my platform:

- no more spam texts and calls
- smaller cars with weaker headlights
- imprison every person in ice and the trump administration on a remote island for a thousand years

Ken Jacobs was the first experimental filmmaker whose work I understood. Not necessarily because the work itself was more accessible but because he presented it as something that was for everyone and could be made by anyone. He, in various ways, democratized the avant garde in a way nobody else had.

A great artist, a wonderful teacher, & speaking personally, a close friend for over 50 years. Linking to a piece I wrote to mark his 80th birthday.

Continuing to speak up, protest, and refusing to succumb to cowardice in the face of oppression does not negate the threat of true fascism taking hold. Tom here can argue that we may not yet be under a full fascist regime, but it’s plain as day Trump and co. are working towards that.
If we were living under fascism, none of you would be here daring to post things. You'd be erasing your social media accounts and keeping your head down; you'd know that peacocking your faux-bravery on a network would expose you to being disappeared.
You have no idea what "fascism" really means.
the regime is zip tying toddlers and ripping them away from their mothers unclothed... calling it fascism upsets this neo-con.

If this were actually fascism you all would behave as cowards, instead of continuing to speak out and refusing to be cowed into silence by an existential threat to our livelihoods. Checkmate, liberals!

Kimmel is back. Destruction of 1stA and authoritarian rule averted (for now). And it’s due to the power of we, the people. Same public protest that got Nixon out of office may succeed here too. Keep up the fight. #Reist.

What does it say about me that I saw this photo and clocked it instantaneously as the Davis Square Starbucks before I even saw the sign confirming it?
BREAKING: Workers in the Boston area just WON the 650th Starbucks union election!

Starbucks has only gotten worse under the leadership of CEO Brian Niccol. Over 12,000 union workers are using their collective voice to speak out against corporate greed and demand a fair union contract!

starmer is doing all the anti-immigrant and anti-trans "popularism" stuff the centrists are demanding US dems do and this is the predictable result:
The government's net approval rating has fallen to -59, Labour's lowest score to date

Approve: 11% (-2 from 23-25 August)
Disapprove: 70% (+3)
Net: -59 (-5)

I'd like to see them try this against an actually healthy company and see how it goes. Just like the vulnerable people they attack, the co.'s and brands that have been their biggest success stories (Cracker Barrel, Bud Light, Target) were already in weak positions when they started their campaigns.
MAGA got everything they wanted out of Cracker Barrel and they still want to punish the company anyway. Just about the most predictable outcome you could imagine.
