good, they can all get fucked
some good news buried among the horrible behavior listed:

“The third woman said federal agents at her hotel are subsisting on microwavable bowls of Campbell’s chicken noodle soup, because it’s become so difficult for them to find restaurants willing to serve them.”
I visited hotels all over Minneapolis, went into back rooms & talked to the staff.

They're afraid.

One told me she resents how her undocumented coworkers spend their days cleaning the rooms of agents who are “hunting down their family members.”

40 minutes. I saw a good version of A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing at my 4th Phish show (6/10/09). I’ve been begging for them to really stretch it out ever since. There’s been some solid versions over the years but they’ve never REALLY stretched it…until night. Over the moon excited to listen to this

Hillbilly Jim has played a different My Morning Jacket song each of the last three weeks. Going super old school this week. I vote that this becomes a weekly ritual.

Goose opened for Pigeons Playing Ping Pong at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco in February 2020 and sold out the same venue in January 2022 as a headliner. Not one year but pretty damn quick, especially considering the world was shut down for a good chunk of that time.
I wonder how often a band has been an opening act and headliner at the same venue in the same year.
Rage Against the Machine played Minnesota three times in 1993, I believe:

4/3/1993 at First Avenue (opening for House of Pain)
6/29/1993 at Lollapalooza (St. Paul Civic Center due to flooding)
10/24/1993 at First Avenue (Quicksand opened)

I think the October show was the one I saw.

Umphrey’s McGee
2/09/06

Umphreys just happened to be in town last weekend, almost exactly 20 years later, and were slated to play what I believe would have been their 30th show at First Avenue last Saturday, until the show was postponed because the federal government murdered someone again.
In honor of Nate’s first show at First Ave, please share your first show at First Ave
Well, quite the show for my first time to First Ave

It’s important people realize that this is coming from the guy who has seen more shows than just about anyone alive. I push 100 a year, roughly half of what he sees.
The version of Ghost of Tom Joad that Bruce and Tom played just now was the greatest single musical performance I’ve ever seen in my life.

I got news of Catherine O’Hara’s death right as lunch was ending and my fourth hour (6th graders) was coming into my classroom.

“What’s going on?”
“Oh, I just found out someone died.”
“Who?”
“Catherine O’Hara. She was an actress.”

::blank stares::

“She was the mom in home alone.”
“Oh no!”

Some of you may remember when Tom Morello toured with Springsteen and the E Street Band in 2014 and they regularly did massive versions of Ghost of Tom Joad. Here’s just one example if you weren’t aware (or here’s one again if you were):

100% pure speculation: Falvey is leaving because ownership is tying his hands so much he finally said “fuck it, I’m out of here.”

This is not a full defense of all of his decisions but it is undeniable he has been starved of resources.

Seems to me as if making Belichick wait a year to go into the Hall of Fame because he’s a jackass no one likes is one of the most reasonable developments in recent news. I fail to see why some are so worked up,

Rick with on this podcast is basically my wet dream. Lefsetz’s interviews go super deep on music industry stuff and the business side of music. If that interests you as much as it does me, this is one you’ll want to listen to.
New two-hour interview (!) with Rick on the Bob Lefsetz Podcast!

Steve Grove is a putz and some of the higher level editorial decisions are troubling/puzzling but we are fortunate in this market to still have a newspaper with a sizable enough staff to give all this the coverage it deserves. We’re also lucky that many of those reporters are really fucking good.
Strib is doing yeoman work during this occupation. Today's front page story on those illegally detained + lost in the system--because all the $ went toward grabbing people instead of legally processing people--is thoroughly well-researched. And 5-6 other ICE-oriented pieces are actual journalism.

The world needs more Brad Landers.
We’ve been on the streets all day with @bradlander.bsky.social and because we had so many patrols out, multiple abductions were prevented.

The world is looking to us for inspiration, and we will keep showing them how we show up for our neighbors.

I liked it better when songs about Minneapolis were about driving all the way from Southtown to the Quarry.
I liked it better when songs about Minneapolis were about running red lights on your motorcycle to avoid the cops.
I liked it better when songs about Minneapolis were about how pumped the singer was to only have 24 hours left in the tour bus before they got back to the city, back to life.

I wonder if Michael Grady ever gets to unpack his suitcase anywhere. There’s no way he’s ever in the same place for more than 2-3 days.
