What a post by Joyce Carol Oates . . .
... I immediately thought of a quote from Bob Marley:

"Some people are so poor, all they have is money."

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.

Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

Democrats have to stop bailing out Republicans from facing the consequences of their own policies. And yeah, that means they have to stop sparing voters from experiencing what GOP government truly means.

Every time Dems step in, it only emboldens the GOP & they make it even worse the next time.
So Democrats get:

1. A CR that will prevent the GOP from facing the wrath of Americans for a shutdown over the holidays

2. A coupon for one (1) meaningless ACA vote that will fail

3. An end to the illegal RIF/SNAP moves that are already before the courts

Those all seem like wins for the GOP.

Hey, @schumer.senate.gov - you better not cave with a *promise* from repubs. We (families of federal employees) did not go through all of this for you to trust the lyingest liars. The credits are extended or NO DICE.

Here’s an idea, defund ICE to pay air traffic controllers and TSA.
Breaking: Flight cancellations will likely grow if the government shutdown continues, Transportation secretary Sean Duffy warns.

"I look to the two weeks before Thanksgiving, you're going to see air travel be reduced to a trickle," he said in an interview on CNN.

Could smaller families 'rewild' the planet — and make humans happier?

The #Idaho government will release SNAP on the 7th and 12th. Other states released the benefits right away so people would have food right away. Why not Idaho?
Red state Idaho is slow walking those funds to their citizens. Some states are happy to continue the cruelty this administration dishes out. It’s time to vote out each and every GOP member on the 2026 ticket!

Today, Mike Johnson will keep the House adjourned for the 95th day out of the last 107.

12 days of work in 107 days.

With full pay and benefits.

The senate has been working, so this is not about the shutdown.

It is about avoiding a vote to release the Epstein files.

Went to the Cabin’s conversation with Jill Lepore and Steve Inskeep about the history of the Constitution tonight. She made lots of interesting points, but suggesting people act locally by reading their city’s charter and engaging in local government felt doable. But where does one find it online?
