i think a big part of what's going on here is we're all getting mad at Democrats for not doing the job we think they're supposed to do when what they think they're doing is the job that they were actually put in place to do by the people that pay them

this seems to be a recurring theme, which makes me feel foolish, but . . . . the shutdown capitulation is the latest lesson that the Democrats are not going to save us. politicians in Washington will not be our salvation.

sure but exactly what about "Groundhog Day but with Tom Cruise getting killed over and over by aliens" is bad?
I like EDGE OF TOMORROW a lot but I can't get away from the feeling that the things about the movie that work are the parts that are directly ripped off from GROUNDHOG DAY and the things about the movie that don't are all the times it veers away from GROUNDHOG DAY

This seems to me like a plan that is most likely to make people think "maybe I should vote for the party that is in favor of locking up every single Democrat in Washington"

The only way to perceive yourself in this manner is if you are shoulders deep in your own rectum
seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

There are only two valid things you can say after "standing up to Trump didn't work": the best is "so we have to try again."
The other one is "I resign effective immediately."
The other one is "I resign effective immediately."
Not a political consultant but I’m not sure “standing up to trump doesn’t work” is the best midterm message, even if if accurately represents senate dems position. Not much point in putting you in power then bsky.app/profile/atru...

ugh even this guy is on the right side of it
Tonight’s Senate vote on the federal government shutdown should have been a time for strength.
Instead we saw capitulation and a betrayal of working Americans.
The American people need more from their leaders.

Vote blue? No, matter who!
From the beginning, the principled reason to withhold votes for the budget is that the Democratic Party sincerely believes Trump is an illegitimate despot trampling the Constitution and that a vote to fund his government is complicity. That should have been the only message. No $ for Trump. Period.

Every few weeks we gotta make posts like this”call your dem reps to tell them to not vote to allow Lord Killdude to shove people into a volcano” and then the dem reps go “we’ve made an amazing deal where Lord Killdude can have his volcano so long as he promises not to shove people into it”

democratic voters wanted their party to shut down the government for myriad reasons — troops in american cities, masked thugs ripping families apart — but dem leaders insisted the wise thing to do politically was to stay hyper-fxated on this one thing, ACA tax credits. and then they just… gave up

Democratic senators think you are so fucking stupid.
The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.
so currently defectors are:
Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

I think tonight shows why “moderate to win elections” is a real risk
the big divide in the Dem caucus, as many have noted, has been less moderate vs progressive than fight versus don’t fight
but it’s not a coincidence that basically everyone in the “don’t fight” camp is a moderate

Anyway a great way to radicalize people is for them to realize that you just abandoned their chance at being able to access and afford health care because you didn’t like waiting in line at the airport.

If they didn't think kids were gonna go hungry as a result of the shutdown fight the they are fucking idiots
Democrats care about people. We don't want kids to go hungry. This is both our greatest liability and our greatest strength.

The only thing I am confident in saying about Senate Dems is that they really do not want to be expected to *do* anything other than raise money in advance of the next election.

Look, if you were personally harmed by the shutdown, I get wanting it to end. But you should be incandescently angry at Dems for causing a shutdown in the first place if they weren't ready to take a hard line to actually get something out of it.
"All federal civil servants should enter Chapter 7, thus nuking their ability to ever hold a clearance again (I'm generalizing a bit but cmon now) so I can.........feel good?"

I would rather have you quit and find another job than have Dems cave.
You can save your home in bankruptcy, if it comes to that. Collateral damage is inevitable.
