your average red state librarian has to present more evidence before buying a single Black history book than the Bluesky Safety Team has to present to randomly change the guidelines of the entire site

Emergency management IS NOT a security sector. It should never be, the fact fema was blended into DHS is a sign of the post 9/11 thinking and it should have been reversed the minute obama took office. The fact it remained there reflects the laziness and disregard of the sector politically.
I really hope I am wrong but I actually would be shocked if democrats eliminated DHS.

There still seems to be a meaningful portion of them who still don’t even want to take FEMA out of DHS.

If the solution isn’t creating more millionaires but just raising their taxes, it has to be wrong
Every decade, we hear "the kids can't read or write!"

Interventions that don't work are proposed. Those that do work are ignored: reducing class sizes, making kids & families feel safe at school and welcome, becoming a community resource.

When their expensive reform fails, they yell at us again.

If rapists are “stranger danger” then what is happening to you at home can’t be rape
Never forget the same people defending pedophilia have spent years trying to convince the public that drag queens and trans people are a threat to children.

It’s all smoke and mirrors to allow the real predators to roam free.

Not a girl anymore but I distinctly remember my mom being upset AT ME when I was like. 14? Bc some old man was apparently gawking at my chest at the grocery store.
The great defining bond of having experienced girlhood is turning 11 and being actively punished by the entire adult world because a bunch of weird men want to fuck you
Theres actually an important convo to be had re: the difference between 5 & 15yo victims of predation, how society treats them, etc. but the ppl most eager to have that talk tend to be interested in the concept of “acceptability” & excusing predation rather than preventing it or helping anyone

Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics"

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

In order for grown adult women to treat adult predatory men with the required derision and disgust, we must be free of the desire for their approval, free of our need for their money/status/power.

Still thinking about this image. What if every time there were rumors about a sex pest a crowd of women just stole from him and left him humiliated
Alas, alack! Depantsed man weeps in the distance as crowd of women fight over his trousers. More humor of the Dutch Golden Age by Adriaen van de Venne.
