Every day, I see folks post in ways that demonstrate this core issue: everyone online is not a person, but an NPC to them.
I think this is very much at the heart of it. There’s a whole cohort of people who understand that, technically, the people in their phone actually exist, but can’t bring themselves to really believe it properly.

My face when people say they won't buy books from Amazon--which, entirely fair and just!--but then go on to list their preferred publishing companies...who are also owned by zillionaire Trump guys, or were founded by ACTUAL LITERAL NAZIS.
Ultimately we can't make enough individual choices to work our way out of corrupt systems. We have to somehow get the systems uncorrupted. Unfortunately a lot of people don't realize how far the corruption goes.

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."
