When I was translating Kon Satoshi, in order to understand him better I spent time reading his personal blog. I'll never forget him writing "They say what Aronofsky is doing is an "homage." I know my English isn't great, but I don't understand the difference between "homage" and being "ripped off."

I think the collective discussion of animation and "sakuga" culture has mutated into something terribly reductive and toxic that likely can't be contained ever again.

there is too much anime. we are getting more tv anime per season than any single year of the 1980s or even some years of 1990s. Nobody can watch this. it is absolutely unsustainable and when this inevitably crashes, it’s going to make the 80s bubble and the 2000s bubble look like tiny little blips.
