It’s time to bring that 80s/90s revival into your home and clothing. Return to the Global Village. Return to New Jack Swing. Return to Memphis Milano.
oh hey william f buckley, what you’re looking for is a time machine to stop your parents from meeting—god speed, we all need this for you for the good of humanity
In 1987 Family Computing magazine asked “computer-using celebrities” what they wanted for Christmas. Julia Child wanted a potion that taught her MS-DOS. Steve Wozniak would like a girlfriend. Robin Williams said he’d “like to be able to jack in directly.” And Todd Rundgren needed a laser printer.

I love this because the people who don’t really use computers are like “a magic spell to be a computer boy” and the people who use computers are like “a printer that actually fuckin works” and it’s been 40 years and that is still the dream

Some bad news. The great film and culture writer Nathan Rabin was in a serious car accident. He is expected to recover, but he has a rough path ahead. Now is a great time to buy his new book (I just did, looks cool!) - a thorough investigation of movies about movies.

I feel like one of the most underrated explanations for what's happening right now in global politics is that almost everyone has lost their minds.

I don’t know a lot.

But I know a lot about dinosaurs.

Now we all know dinosaurs lived for millions of years right?

But does you mind actually wrap around how long they dominated for?

Lets get a little perspective.

Did you know Allosaurus never saw flowers but T.rex did?

As we all know, school was invented in 1946, via Operation Paperclip. Before that, all children who weren’t millionaires were free-range unschooled children. #retvrn
There's someone arguing with me on Tiktok about whether or not the Oz books were written for children. They think they weren't because "most children couldn't read or afford books in the 1900's" and I am now taking to the bottle. Because this is not a bot.

Through his life and extraordinary talent, the immigrant and refugee child Tomáš Sträussler who became known to us all as Tom Stoppard made British theatre and this country a better place to be.

You might even argue that he helped redefine Englishness through his astonishing legacy of work.

Right?!?
Issuing a very rare explanatory note here to say that, while I do consider this a fun and quite odd fact about Tom Stoppard, I also believe his script for Last Crusade is a genuine masterpiece. And I'm not just saying that because it might be my favourite film of all time. It's damn near perfect.

It’s just a southern plantation society—that’s all they want. Western civilization is just Tara for them.
i mean what are these "western values" these guys are so hopped up about? they are directly antagonistic to western europe. they don't believe in civil liberties. they reject democracy. and don't get me started on christianity, they hate their white neighbors almost as much as the brown ones

Behold, the Sword of Power! Excalibur! For anyone waiting for things from me, this is why: my brain has been consumed by John Boorman and Excalibur, both of them dear to my heart. The restoration is stunning, and finally presents the film in the right aspect ratio on home video... 🧵1/8

Let’s celebrate Thanksgiving 1970s-style, by watching Martin Scorsese’s concert documentary of the last performance by The Band (or at least the Band with Robbie Robertson still part of it).

Reading letters from the Princess Liselotte of Palantine, the German sister-in-law of Louis XIV, and it's wild because she had this super informal writing style that almost sounds like modern texts

Like at one point she goes "wish to god my son didn't love holding chunks of bread like a peasant"
