Judging my book by its cover.

Can be legitimately inferred:
- It’s sci-fi
- It’s weird
- there’s forests
- flying tentacle creatures, yes
- spiders

Not apparent but good to know:
- The sci-fi is near to distant future
- The forests are in California and Florida
- tentacle creature is robot
- cats

This was my neighbor’s pick for short book club, I enjoyed it. Clever and tense and irreverent hard fantasy. Linguistic nerdery. A mostly reprehensible protagonist

So pleased to see Muñeca included in this episode of horror books for the first half of 2026! Along with The Curse of Hester Gardens, a new Cynthia Pelayo (and, @lindsaykingmiller.bsky.social, there's a new Catriona Ward!)
Thank you to Becky and Emily and Robb :)

If there’s one thing social media has taught me, and also cons, it’s that it’s better to actually not interact with famous people at all if you can help it, like eight times out of ten. If fame doesn’t make you an asshole, it definitely makes you too busy for whatever my bullshit is
There's also soooo much value in being a fan. Like, if what led you to writing was reading the Fifth Season or Marvel's Time Runs Out or AO3 or whatever, showing up with a sense of gratitude when you meet folks in your lineage is.... helpful.

At my first WorldCon, me and
Talking to one of these types at a con who asked how I 'got in' with so many 'famous writers' who I'd been talking to and I said "we made friends before anyone knew who we were decades ago by striking up interesting conversations and enjoying each other's company" and he kept re-asking the question.

The fire has melted the dumpster and is spreading to the rest of the alley. The fire trucks have been blocked by Waymos that mistook the flames for traffic lights. The cockroaches are dancing around the pyre, singing. Glowing tentacles rise from the molten trash. Gasoline drips from a window above

I finally watched Animal Farm (1954). I’ve not read the book, would you say it goes harder? Or not as hard. Because that movie goes pretty hard

1. I’m so excited about this book!

2. One time when I was workshopping my pen name, another writer was like, “just think about what kind of things an author with that name would write.”

The rebuttal that took me too long to think of was:

Whatever the fuck they want

I haven’t been outside yet but I will have to, in about an hour, or my mom will be disappointed. But I don’t like it and I’m not prepared

All I want is a game this gorgeous with dinosaurs in it. Not for fighting. Not for hunting. Just dinosaurs, like, around.

Possibly for riding
