If you’ve never been to SVP and don’t know anyone there, it’s totally acceptable to go to the hotel bar and ask random strangers if any of them are paleontologists until someone says yes, this is literally how I made my first SVP friends 🩷 (yes it was terrifying! but it worked!)

It can be so hard not to stay up late fine-tuning presentations slides the night before, but the best use of that time, if you have to obsess (like I do) is REHEARSING. Practice it out loud w/ friends or your phone, until it feels natural. The more you rehearse the easier it’ll be on stage.

That being alone is subjective and writing a scene where a character is alone is actually really hard because how alone can you actually be, ever

But also aloneness itself is a character???? Like being truly alone, where you can’t personify anything around you, I don’t if I’ve even tried that

Ok I was very sleepy when I wrote that but I tend to think of setting as a character and also objects can be characters, and like, the weather can be a character, and there are always the imaginary conversations that POV characters have with other characters in their heads, so I was thinking alone

This probably doesn’t help, but wasting a day in bed in Paris is pretty classic writer shit

So at least there’s that?

I wrote ad copy for years and years and I feel like I’m still trying to integrate the lessons from it into my fiction. It took me way, way too long to realize that titles are headlines, for instance
