Sure, doom scrolling is great, but have you tried bird scrolling? Crank up the volume and enjoy a few seconds of noisy nature calm!

Any recommendations of a good tutorial or guide *for a first-timer* on automated posting to bluesky? (yes, aka bots) Specifically, I'm thinking about pulling & posting data scientific info (especially imagery) from a data repository.

Everyone getting mad at the New York Times for sitting on or suppressing mountains of evidence about Jeffrey Epstein and Donald Trump need to realize that they had a lot on their plate with trying to keep the country afraid of trans kids and Palestinians

Wait, Gavin Newsom's new CARB chair says the board will "rethink" the state's 2305 mandate to end sales of gas-only vehicles? As in, Newsom's crowning climate achievement and the biggest thing CA has done on climate in years?

This was reported a week ago and has gotten very little attention?

I always love mud volcano videos, but one erupting under the house is 😟😫
⚒️🧪 The Wandan mud volcano in southern Taiwan erupted again yesterday (12/11/25)!

The eruption occurred at 3 vents. Sadly one vent was under a house.

This is its 11th eruption in the last ~3 years, most recently in June 2025.

Video courtesy of my friends 陳玉意 and 張寶惠.

Best with sound on.

I am on my way home to Toronto and the aurorae are absolutely phenomenal.

If you are anywhere in the northern half of the continent, get outside and look up! Or better still, put your camera on a 10 second exposure and point it up.

Anyone good with random California melon identification?

~4-5" diameter. I think it's some kind of watermelon, based on its (very weak) flavor. I am not sure if the weak flavor is because it's not ripe yet, or just its normal taste.

Gleaned while birding in the delta.

It's a wrap on our Wellington Caves fieldwork and filming about groundwater recharge. I have some superstar UNSW colleagues, happy to film and be filmed. Looking forward to see how all this looks. Thanks to @marilumelozurita.bsky.social and the

Since Faith is being modest by not linking to her work, I will!

The stories and tools are perhaps even more relevant today, as we see a crisis of public confidence in science and the gutting of science & science communication in the US.

Also makes a great winter holiday gift!

Ah well, no luck.

But at least I get to enjoy photos from other folks! Although the best part isn't really the photos, it's all the joy and excitement of the people posting from all over at the same time!

Feeling jealous.

I had been considering going down this week but decided it was still too hot for my tastes. Oh well.

Bicycles - Why you might need more than one
Artist: Dave Walker

Ok #bicycle people, I need suggestions! I want to light up my bike with colorful LEDs to make me more visible from the side when it's dark at 5PM and I'm running errands. Any recommendations?

I keep seeing brightz, but they seem to get pretty negative reviews about durability.
