I'd be curious to see Cuba in these polls. Italy and Japan topping as we project our values onto them; right-wingers giving favorable seeing these countries as "trad values" and left-wingers giving favorable on public transit, health care. Can China ever make it to net positive under CCP? Unlikely.

I appreciate this so much. Canada has a self-righteous attitude that we're "the good country" abroad, but this comedian, a Romanian, stops that shit and confronts our home-grown bigotry.

We are in a moment of intense racism and the Carney gov is lipstick on a pig.

“The imminent return of trains to northern Ontario and the Gaspé Peninsula is great news. But we need to make sure it’s only the beginning of a long-lasting national passenger rail revival.”

@taras-grescoe.com makes the case for Canada’s trains.
Opinion: Canada’s passenger rail lines are getting revived after decades of vanishing service
Across North America, there is a grassroots clamouring for the return of railway lines that once provided a reliable and affordable alternative to cars and planes

I keep seeing fantastic writers with substacks and it's terribly tempting to check out the platform, but this incident from three years ago is why I never do.
NEW: Substack founders finally respond to Substackers Against Nazis. They say Nazis publishing and earning money on their platform is fine with them.

No, you wrote a screed about journalists for no reason save that they carried commentary from families of victims expressing empathy for the shooter, and because you know people won't respond well to telling those families they're wrong for that compassion, you pivoted to hitting the medium instead.
I just wrote a thread in which I compared the lack of compassion expressed for the shooter's siblings to the abundance of compassion for the shooter. I actually don't care how much you do or don't hate the dead people. Sorry to disappoint!

Gavin Newsom declaring Ronald Reagan Day is the most "Pick Me, Pick MEEEEEEE" thing I’ve ever seen. He attacks trans people and the homeless while thirsting after conservatives to a degree that’s humiliating. Anyone insisting he’s the future of the Democratic Party is the most juiceless husk alive 😡

The prevailing narrative sees the political moment in the US is a cyclical reaction; the violent correction to a Black President, MeToo, etc, a populist wave of discontent.

But as we learn via Epstein files, it's apparent this is a calculated movement with the massive resources of an elitist class.
February 13, 2026 at 5:54 PM
With this clown as the Democrat nominee, I think the more accurate statement is that corrections from Trump will all be temporary.

Or nonexistent.
Newsom’s message to world leaders in Munich: It’s time to start thinking about the next president.

“Donald Trump is temporary,” Newsom said in a panel about climate change at #MSC2026. “He’ll be gone in three years.”

Millennials also have to do better educating Gen Z. The "burn it all down" mentality among them is being misled into the toxic, evil nihilism of the billionaires whose version of "burning down the system" is tearing apart the last vestiges of the welfare state, democracy, and social gold.
This old axiom was coined back when aging boomers wanted to hang on to their gains — and we’re seeing a more desperate version with GenX — but for the millennials and GenZ who’ve been left with nothing, no one’s saying this anymore. Burn it all the fuck down.
I was warned people grow more conservative as they age but all I want to do now here in my 40s is carve ANTIFA into my forehead and burn it all the fuck down

So young. So full of potential. All gone.

If I have one ask, it's that we do not become numb to it. I get that people are burnt out on bad news. I get that it's a litany of horror.

But we owe it to them to not be numb. They were children. And we must do better by them.
