Worth remembering that in 1952, Chaplin - for 40 years maybe the most famous man in the world - had his visa revoked as he sailed for Europe. J. Edgar Hoover didn't like that he was a vaguely left-wing pacifist who slept around. He never really got over it. His creativity didn't.
The first time Charlie Chaplin spoke onscreen, he implored the people of the world to resist the rising tide of fascism.

Nearly 90 years later, it remains a timely message.

I think people need to understand that when many of us are angry at religion, we usually aren’t angry at the spiritual traditions themselves, but at the conservative ways power has latched onto them and used them to control people, bodies, and communities.

American conservatives will look you right in the eye with a straight face and tell you that complete and utter subservience to masked federal police is patriotism, anything else deserves being executed in the street, and tax dollars for healthcare is tyranny.

Clear-eyed, fact-based, and written to explain to normies. No “both sidesing.” No “Trump officials disagree.”
No gaslighting that what we can see with our own eyes might not be true.

This is journalism. Well done, @people.com

I will never stop reminding people of 2020 when #Seattle PD posted pictures of the memorial candle they'd kicked over, claiming it was an IED, with the word "candle" still visible on the dollar store label that they hadn't bothered to take off.

Exactly; protest the hotel (by reserving with different ones), not the convention (by not going at all).

As mentioned in their reply post, there’s also still value in INFORMING the convention, so that hopefully they can update their contracts once they’re able to do so - which could be years away.
This. If you abandon your rooms, guess what? The hotel STILL gets the money, it'd just be the furry convention paying the cost.

I'm all for protesting companies for supporting ICE, but please make sure you're not hurting or killing our community's conventions by doing it, is all.
If you're gonna protest Hilton siding with ICE, I highly suggest you guys do some mutual aid shit to keep your favorite fur cons from sinking because of breaches of contract. Sadly, a common part of convention contracts is getting butts in rooms (hence, room blocks at special rates).

This 1000%.

If you want to paywall your news site then fine. But if you demand I pay just to stop you force loading my machine with invasive cookies I can't choose or opt out from then that's not fine - that's extortion to secure my own privacy.

Fuck right off. And then fuck right off some more.
Sorry newspapers, but if my choice to read your article is either accept cookies or pay, I’ll just go elsewhere

The concept of paying for privacy is fundamentally disgusting

No, they're lying. We don't need to bend ourselves into pretzels here. They are always lying.

(And this is Renee from confirmed socials- a photo of a different woman with red lipstick is going around, but that was a classmate.)

I don't know who needs to hear this, but cops are not allowed to shoot people just because you didn't do what they said.

That is called murder when they do that.

Some cops are working hard to convince people otherwise.
