i think if you want to have those disgusting LED headlights on your car, you should have to do a test where they blast you point blank with your own headlights and then you have 15 seconds to successfully complete some sort of vision-based task, and if you can't do it they push your car off a cliff

I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

This is one of the dangerous parts of everything that is happening. All the costs that increase because of legislation, inflation, tariffs, etc. are just the cost now, it's not going to magically correct itself when and if we manage to get things back on track. We're just fucked.
Here’s the thing about healthcare premiums about to skyrocket: they will never come back down, short of a complete overhaul of our system for universal healthcare. Which clearly won’t happen bc of all the money tied up between health and politics.

I love this kind of arc for artists. They put out a small volume of impactful work, then they retire from demands on their output & live the rest of life as they want. A lot of novelists are like this. I think of myself as wanting to write novels as long as I live but that's a respectable way.

I am a vegetarian who has never had to host Thanksgiving, so I wouldn't know what to do with a turkey if I had one, and therefore always forego the free supermarket turkey - I am sure I am not the only person in such a situation, and this is an opportunity for it to go somewhere it is needed.
In light of the govt shutdown and SNAP getting cut for a ton of folks, I have had a fun idea for how to help. I call it "Operation Turkey Heist (legal)."

I am a vegetarian who has never had to host Thanksgiving, so I wouldn't know what to do with a turkey if I had one, and therefore always forego the free supermarket turkey - I am sure I am not the only person in such a situation, and this is an opportunity for it to go somewhere it is needed.
