I can say anecdotally that some teenagers see importance in finding their own history (lgbt, therian/otherkin, game fandoms, etc.) on forums, listservs and usenet but there's a gap of more recent stuff because of walled-garden social media […]

[trans healthcare advice (US-specific)]

PSA for my US trans friends: there's a Telehealth HRT clinic called QMed (QueerMed) that serves adults **and minors** in 47 states (excluding DC, unfortunately). They accept lots of private insurance (but not medicare/medicaid), and also offer a payment […]

Most of the waste and distortion of capitalism results from artificial abundance of material resources, and artificial scarcity of immaterial resources.
Just removing all subsidies to irrigation water, and making long-haul trucks pay the full cost of roadbed damage via weight-distance tolls, would massively decarbonize and relocalize US agriculture.
this I think is pretty easy if you just price water correctly

Okay it was obnoxious of me to use unicode characters in my screen name and few people actually call me tjw these days anyway. Might as well use the space to ramp up what I'm going to start going by, Thommy or Tommy.

Not changing my legal name and I kinda recommend against it in most cases.

Watson's racism & sexism were infamous. but this obituary sheds light onto something else: he was essentially an earlier rendition of what's happening now with tech CEOs & pundits who are convinced they're always the smartest person in the room & how this inevitably leads to anti-"PC/woke" brain rot
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

My vision of transhumanism is more fantasy than sci-fi. Faeries aren't real? Like hell they're not, I'll make them real and make myself one. I don't want to be further away from nature, I want to lounge on a flower. Aphids the size of my fist.

TIL "-ila" as a suffix is diminutive in Gothic meaning that Wulfila is like "little Wolf" and therefore Attila was a nickname basically meaning "lil' daddy" grammatically like papacito (Spanish) or papatje (Dutch). I don't try to convince people of anarchism but rather that you have other options available to you than just working through the system. Activists understand this, of course. Anyone else who is politically minded should too.
