Mikaela Shiffrin wins the slalom gold medal by 1.50 seconds

If you add up the winning margins of the winners at the 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022 women's slalom, you get 1.51 seconds

There's more:

Is Trump dangerous? 43% of Republicans have no opinion.
Honest? 44% have no opinion.
Corrupt? 43% have no opinion.
Out-of-touch? 49% have no opinion.

They know who he is. They just don't want to admit it.

Colbert has truly had a great relationship with CBS, even after he was told his contract wasn’t going to be renewed. So let me say: It’s stunning to me that, as he explains here, nobody at CBS told Colbert about the statement today.

My mother told me to fix YouTube because she’s not seeing the playlist. I played around and nothing is working. I turned off her tablet and turned it back on and didn’t work. She complained still. I looked and saw YouTube was down. She didn’t believe it. Then the playlist returned & said she did it

BBC, Sky and ITV News all led their news with Jesse Jackson's passing, devoting 5+ minutes (even in half-hour shows) to his passing + context.

ABC, CBS, NBC all put the story in the middle of their b'casts, spending 2-3 minutes on it. CNN's The Lead + AC360 put his passing midway through, too

I continue to think a lot of the quality issues we see with AI art is less a deficiency of AI itself & more that the vast majority of people using it are uncreative hacks.
AI filmmaking is completely unserious.

You've got people with $30k begging the internet for ideas by next week because they have nothing of their own to say, it's just slop for the sake of slop. Embarrassing state of affairs.

The thing about Jesse Jackson is that his most profound political legacy is convincing a buttload of mostly black people to register and vote in the 80s.

And the thing about that is every Dem presidential primary from ‘92 on has been won by the candidate that is most acceptable to those voters.

I’m going to stay out of the TX Senate primary race because it’s a legit tough decision between Talarico and Crockett, but why would the administration get involved in this? They accidentally made Talarico a household name. I don’t know who they want, but they need to focus on their own.
This may end up being a massive own goal for the Trump administration.

Like most problems with AI this too is not a problem with AI it's a problem with the mad gold rush around AI.

I have my issues with LLM and generative AI, but the really big problems are very much human behaviour, exploitation and public funding and regulatory capture by big capital.

Massie’s politics are moronic, the block headed nitwitery of extreme hardcore libertarianism. But he’s mostly consistent. He & his HS sweetheart at a tiny school in Appalachia both got in to MIT, married, invented a bunch of stuff, & made money. He lives off the grid. He’s just wired differently.

How to protect democracy in two easy steps:

Step #1: Vote by mail or vote early in person as early as you can in the voting window.

Step #2: Volunteer as an election clerk, poll worker, phone banker, or canvasser in your home area or the nearest competitive jurisdiction to you!
Instead of fear-mongering about ICE stealing the election people should be making plans for what they will do this fall—including driving to other states—to get out our vote. /7
