It's Personal News Notes App post time.

(ok actually it was time weeks ago, but it is still also time now)
Gotham produced 1.86 xG in 300 minutes in the playoffs last season.

It's an article rather than a post, but they're built to be antagonists rather than protagonists. That doesn't make them villains, but it does make them vulnerable when a team says "no YOU have the ball" like Corinthians did.
Among the ways to lose a knockout game of soccer:

Possession: Gotham 68.4%, Corinthians 31.6

xG: Gotham 1.22, Corinthians 0.69

Total shots: Gotham 20, Corinthians 9

Shots off target: Gotham 13, Corinthians 4

Shots blocked: Gotham 6, Corinthians 3

Shots on target: Corinthians 2, Gotham 1

All I’ve been told so far is Lavelle “left the game with a head injury.” No further details at this time.
Most importantly, asking for updates on Rose Lavelle. Will update if I get any info.

Everyone's gonna gesture at AKB, but watch how Howell & McCaskill deal with Andressa Alves' sacrificial run. IMO Howell shouldn't be making a hand-off here, McCaskill is reacting as the ball's being struck. That opens the window for the pass.
It was one of the only bits of defending GFC had to do and... welp

Wasn't really a coin flip I don't think (haven't seen xG figures yet for today but I'd expect a healthy Bats edge), but sometimes the rent comes due.
Two things can be true:

1. Gotham has Esther, Lavelle, Shaw, and Purce, you're always at risk for their higher conversion rate settling a coin-flip game.

2. Shouldn't Gotham be in far fewer coin-flip games, seeing as how they have the players they have?
Gotham scored off their biggest chance of the match, fairly consistent with their season. A 54% conversion rate on great chances is probably unsustainable, but Gotham's finishing can stay bonkers longer than you can stay solvent.

"We'll probably play three minutes due to that stoppage..."

(referee blows in the exact cadence for full time)

"Well! That is it!"

(referee decides to play on anyway???)

Your NWSL watchers who also follow MLS know the long, brutal history of strong teams not being prepared for knockout tournament play against a motivated opponent in January.

But usually said opponent is at least in-season. Corinthians last played on Dec. 14.

Now it's official - Uniqlo are the new equipment partner of the #JLeague, replacing Adidas. They'll be providing clothing for referees as well as uniforms for the All-Star Game in June.

Fans will also be able to create their own custom J.League merch through the UTme! platform from Feb. 6.

A thing Rodman has always understood is how the pressure cooker that is an NWSL contender or (especially) the USWNT has to also have fun. The cellys and pre-game photo plans serve a purpose.

Talked to her back in 2024 about how Emma Hayes was on the same wavelength from the jump.

If Ayo Oke is playing passes like this regularly for Denver (which means Denver are spreading teams out, it's not just 100% on her) their attackers are going to be loving life.

As for Bethune, she's displayed elite balance since day one in NWSL, and as always has high xDawg in front of goal.
Croix Bethune gets her first for the #USWNT, fantastic passing

This lineup says "I'm following a preseason minutes loading plan first and foremost, and the opposition is going to park the bus."

Might be tough to draw conclusions from this 90 minutes.
That’s right folks we’ve got another soccer lineup

Teams should be conscious about the fact that celebrating Black excellence, Black history, and Black culture on the field and in the city in which they reside doesn't require a specific date to fall in line with their schedule. They can just...do it.
As a person who is black and part of the lgbtq+ community it bothers me we can celebrate one and not the other. They do such a good job with Juneteenth last year like we can celebrate outside of June just like Pride

Spirit have announced their 2026 preseason roster.

Worth noting that Rebeca Bernal, Rosemonde Kouassi, & Leicy Santos are not listed as internationals. Spirit confirm to me that all 3 received US residency & will not count as internationals.

No email for media yet but the Spirit have posted a "Thank you, Shadia Nankya" message on Instagram.

FYI for context — this is what the NWSLPA refers to as a roster classification.

A contrast to the league wanting to add HIP as a classification alongside STIRP, NTRP, SEI, D45, etc.
Inbox: Washington Spirit sign defenders Madison Haugen and Molly Skurcenski to short-term injury replacement contracts.

No details on who they would be replacing, but the Spirit to my knowledge still have Andi Sullivan, Ashley Hatch, & Casey Krueger on their SEI list.
