Her ability to develop players, her unique mentality, her historic season with Racing Louisville, and persevering through everything that was thrown at her both on and off the field, here’s why I believe Bev Yanez deserves to be #NWSL Coach of the Year.

Idk if anyone’s said this yet but whatever mishegoss is going on with the MLS calendar, I wonder how it impacts NWSL scheduling in shared stadiums.

I actually don’t really understand math tbh never been my strongest subject.

What’s funny to me is that “I think someone else deserved a random subjective award” has turned into “Y U H8 VLATKO” from his… stans?
Honestly a little tickled that Vlatko has come full circle enough to have far too intense Online Defenders. Didn’t feel possible in the summer of 2023.

Meg knows what’s up (as per usual)
Or they simply feel differently than you, which is actually valid. Vlatko’s had a historic season, I think he is a fantastic NWSL coach. I also think there’s a compelling, if very different, case for Yanez. All award voting is subjective and kind of flawed, hope that helps!

KC fans can at least rest easy knowing that I think Temwa deserves MVP over Esther.

NWSL to Atlanta is such a massive opportunity for the league, particularly if the new club can connect with Atlanta's culture the way Atlanta United did

Oh I guess I missed the specific criteria set out for this completely subjective award but good thing riches and wonders is here to school me on my deeply flawed ideas!
My question is if you think she should be. I don’t. I think your idea of what CotY is deeply flawed. It’s the best coach. It’s not your fave or most improved. Do you not realize how much Vlatko steamrolled in the league by?
November 12, 2025 at 12:06 AM
I actually don’t hate Vlatko. My hot take is that COVID preventing roster turnover plus the politicking with USSF played a significant part in why he did not succeed with the USWNT (not that he was perfect, it’s just multifaceted). I just believe Bev is more deserving for the reasons I lay out.
We are pretending because
1. Some people hate Vlatko for stupid reasons
and
2. People think it makes them look smart if they take a contrarian perspective even if it is the most obvious answer

I think there’s a misunderstanding that you can’t both laud the accomplishments of someone and also believe that another is more deserving based on what’s ultimately a subjective set of criteria. I’m not out here saying anyone is wrong, I just have a different frame of reference on how I view it.

The award is coach of the year, not best team results of the year. They won the shield for their troubles, but I’m not entirely convinced that KC’s dominance was due to coaching rather than roster.

Ultimately, Bev and Vlatko ended their championship run the same way - a quarterfinal exit.
This is insanity.

We have a coach and team that cleared the next closest squad by 21pts in the regular season, conceded only 13 goals (!!!) (0.5GA per game), had the highest PPG in a season at 2.50, and a win percentage over 80%.

These are all superb records for any top tier league in any sport.

Bev deserving COTY isn’t to say Vlatko didn’t have a historic season with KC (he did) or that Adrian didn’t do well with the Spirit (he did), but that Bev did more with way less than either of those two. And she did it in the midst of unimaginable personal loss.

They do when you compare it quite literally player to player. On an individual level, some teams’ difference makers are above and beyond.
Most of the (genuine) arguments I'm receiving on this hinge on a read of roster quality in KC and Louisville that I don't think holds up.

Obviously KC & Spirit have stronger & deeper squads than Louisville, but the size of the gap required for that argument to work don't exist in the NWSL.
