I am not proud of a lot of my behavior on Twitter in the Before Times. It was a brave new world and all that; we weren't taught or equipped to handle it. But all I can do is do better now that I'm aware of the game.
Times change. We grow. We learn. *We* change.

Reminded of this Ologies episode on creepiness, particularly the balance of horror, terror, and fear in film and how crucial it is to have the right buildup. Otherwise you'll get camp, cheesiness, or comedy.

I wonder if vampires and I share similar neurodivergence, in that we wait to be invited because if we just jump in and "be ourselves" the result is over the top and upsetting

The jokes about how the internet is "just for cat pictures" kinda bug me, because they trivialize this incredible technological achievement that has changed so many lives

Some of us are allergic to cats. Our parasocial relationships with your animals sustain us. We need your cat pictures. Send them

RE starbucks picket line--the relevant detail is "picket line, do not cross." Pass that along. Proclaiming that you are in no danger of doing so because you are too aesthetically pure to let Starbucks coffee pass your lips is...unhelpful and does not give the impression you perhaps imagine it does.

From the co-writing session today... What if you took all of the books you've read, life you've lived, wisdom gained, and then reached back in time for the audacity you had when you were younger?

What could you make if you borrowed that self, now?

SO GOOD
ICYMI: I’m really proud of this story and @pseudopod.org did a beautiful job producing it (as always). I’d love it if you gave it a listen/read.

The power of knowing oneself, accepting oneself, and spontaneous human combustion under the shadow of religious expectations. Please note the CWs
PseudoPod 965: The Ecstasy of the Saints
I’m six the first time it happens. I’m sitting in the backseat of the family sedan, staring at the rearview mirror so I can see when my father’s big eye peels upward and focuses on me…

This article is required reading.

When I was writing my space opera trilogy a few years ago, I decided never to use the word "race" to refer to alien species. I used "species," "peoples," "civilizations," etc.

I've also tried to stop saying "human race" in casual conversation.
The far right is obsessed with Lord of the Rings and Musk keeps posting about "hobbits" because modern scientific racism owes more to fantasy worlds and gaming systems than genetic science, and they see both as effective mediums for right-wing propaganda www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/1...

Looks like another "a genre I don't read sucks lol" discourse is happening, so I'll just say this: Every single genre has its unique enjoyments and wisdom to impart, whether or not it's a genre that you personally enjoy or gravitate toward. Once you realize this, the world becomes a lot more fun!

This is like saying, ‘We should get rid of unions so YOU can negotiate your OWN salary with your boss!’

(We should absolutely not get rid of unions & you should absolutely not have to negotiate your own salary solo…)
Negotiating your own health insurance sounds like being stuck in hell which isn't that far off from what we have now
Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

So there's this thing called the Exeter Book, it's a codex from 1072 that's basically some rich guy's mixtape of Old English poetry. The interesting thing is it's heavily water damaged in the back half so the closer you get to the end of the book the more and more of each page is just missing

Pretty much all affordability discourse could benefit from just posting this chart.

If you're in the better off America, all the luxury goods you want in excess are for the most part much cheaper. If you're in the poorer America, most of the shit you need to live/grow is more expensive.
