Since gamergate, I have have in the back of my mind what one might call ‘fascist recruiting tactics.’ Some of these could be called 1) unlock forbidden wishes, promise to satisfy them 2) use inequality to create envy + promise share of spoils 3) create belonging by promising ‘total acceptance.’

A Carolina Wren got in our house today and someone is still sulking that it was allowed to escape.

It was brought up in an earlier thread that #authors who can't afford to hire an artist for their covers will turn to free, open-source options that may use gAI, and they don't necessarily know they're putting slop on their #novel.

That's a fair point. So, what to do? Well, lemme tell ya... 🧵 (1/)

I grew up with a violent cop father who was completely protected and never faced consequences. His victims were silenced or blamed. He was lauded and decorated.

Seeing that same dynamic become the MO of my country with ICE has been horrifying. I know this story. I lived this story. We are not safe.

And he didn’t. He tried to help a woman who’d just been assaulted. There was nothing rash, stupid, or radical about what he did. He showed kindness. And they killed him for it.

“don’t give them what they want”

they are manufacturing their justifications post-hoc. they are already doing what they want. you are not responsible for the actions of your oppressor. you are only responsible for keeping your neighbors safe and that will always be seen as defiance

All net proceeds of all these shirts, hoodies and onesies will go to aid organizations in Minnesota working to protect their neighbors from terror. Fuck ICE, stand with Minneapolis.

Democrats can and must make it clear there will be trials and anyone even somewhat associated with ICE will face them. Maybe give a quit-your-job deadline on appeasement and give people 72 hours. I don't know. But currently the plan is to let them murder us in the street and get away with it.

it's never the crazy weird conspiracy theory weapons. they are poisoning you with toxins they are well-documented to have. they are beating you with ordinary sticks and shooting you with ordinary guns

the only conspiracy is how they gained legal immunity to do this
My group was able to recover a spent canister from a green smoke grenade in Minneapolis. We now confirm with physical evidence that it was a green signaling grenade.

Please don't spread rumors about hexachloroethane or nerve agents.

I love that my sister’s notes on my book include us reminiscing about childhood sketchiness that got weaved into it, like the time our father used a decommissioned stoplight as part of our Christmas lights display or our mom’s questionable ability to ALWAYS get impossible-to-find toys, every year.

the way this entire thread (esp the fact that the bus driver literally got away with kidnapping because the police and company didn't take it seriously??) functions as an incredible meta commentary on this country right now 💀😭
I just woke up from a nap and somehow while I was asleep, everyone on the bus has figured out we are not going to the right place

To be fair they are too ignorant to recognize the historical resonance.
There's no better way to observe MLK Day than to go on the news and insist that the civil rights protesters objecting to police brutality are actually "paid agitators"
Rep. Byron Donalds: "These agitators -- who by the way are paid, folks. America, they are paid to do this kind of mess."
