The equivalent of what the Americans are going through right now would be me being handed the actual voice recording of DGSE operatives explaining the exact tramadol dose they subreptitiously gave Ronaldo on the evening of 11 July 1998

Wait do I have it correct that Joyce Carol Oates said Musk was a shell of a man with no joy in his life and he totally saw it and said "No I'm not" and now he's searching the titles of different movies he likes and replying "great movie"

A post on on the Presidential Election - mainly going deeper into the poll numbers, but also some discussion about what each outcome might mean beyond just this election, and thoughts on the broader conversation about democracy. #Áras25

Baseball is something which, like public transportation and lesbianism, I only learned to love as an adult.

I always thought it was funny that Za/um chose to give the insane bigot the most cogent argument against the fascism of nostalgia. Man, what a game.

Coming around to the idea we should just randomly permaban 20% of the site a year. I think it would be healthier if you knew you were gone in a few years most like and it would let people get on with their lives. And if you manage not to get get banned then congratulations God wants you to be here !

In food history, we notice how super-refined foods--gelatin, vienna sausage, white bread--lose class and become horrifying once they become industrialized. Suddenly, fingermarks in bread dough demonstrate skill, not clumsiness.

Post-chatGPT, I'm feeling this about writing. Smoothness feels gross.

Old Soviet joke for today:

A man walks into a newsstand every day, looks around, and leaves.

After a long time of this, the owner says “Can I help you find something?”

“I’m looking for the obituaries.”

“The obituaries are in the back of the newspaper, comrade.”

“Not the one I’m looking for.”

This would be my read on it, with the caveat I haven't kept up too much on scifi books the last while. I would wager that over the last 10-20 years fantasy has significantly outsold scifi.
