In a Democratic club meeting, LA Mayor Karen Bass pronounced herself "flabbergasted" by Nithya Raman's entry into the mayor's race. "I’ve worked closely with Nithya, helped her gain the Democratic endorsement, helped her clear an encampment in her district," she said. "I am going to fight."

I think it's best for everyone to understand that the unified class project of billionaires right now is to do to white collar workers what globalization and neoliberalism did to blue collar workers.

Yeah my sense is today is more in the hands of an aggregation of activist orgs and small business owners. Some lefty union locals have endorsed locally (but have they organized? Not clear.) This is the PSL/vanguardist strategy at work.
Boycotts are necessary! Big protests are necessary! Economic blackouts are necessary! Workers calling out sick or taking time off to support these causes is necessary! Mutual aid is BEYOND necessary! But they are not strikes.

These are the Haitians attacked by Vance in 2024 at the urging of Canadian neo-Nazi Geoff Martin, aka "Captive Dreamer," who he appears to follow closely.

They're currently here legally. The admin is abruptly making them illegal, then removing them in a 1940s-style militarized cleansing campaign.

I complain that constitutional reform is never taken seriously by the UK left but it pales in comparison to how little discussion within elite US liberal and left circles about serious constitutional reform.
It just now strikes me that the United States, unlike every other democracy in the world, has never ever ever had an early presidential election. This seems like a problem? Like you need to have an institutionalized path for designating an entire administration illegitimate and voting for a new one?

The moment, I think, that I radicalized for good.
Today I'm remembering Philando Castile, shot in 2016 by police in the Minneapolis suburbs after being pulled over for a broken brake light. "Sir, I have to tell you that I do have a firearm on me," he said. Ten seconds later one of the cops had shot him five times. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing...

It is amazing to see it continuing even now! What is ironic is that of course, this self-preservation will not continue to be functional for much longer now even for this cosseted group. But it is shameful anyway. Truly no sense of belonging to a society beyond a narrow social class

I'm really sorry to say it but the attitude and posture of elite institutions has been a massive problem. Reproducing their comfortable social worlds has come above everything else. An inconsistently applied set of epistemic or other professional values has been in the internal justification for it.

this so called government wants more and more and more blood in the streets
again, five days ago in front of SCOTUS the administration’s official position was that it is illegal to prohibit firearms in public places
Where's the NRA at?

Carrying a weapon in public is now an indication of seeking to "massacre law enforcement"?

Any org security is only as secure as your trust with one another and the best way to keep people safe is to organize in public. Heavy opsec culture makes it easier for bad actors to fuck with your organizing.
Opsec culture in activism legitimately needs to die

in part this because los angeles is not actually a city, but the holy roman empire in a trench coat with portfolio of headshots
Los Angeles is almost certainly the worst governed major blue city in the entire country at this point
L.A. Metro, the main transit operator for Los Angeles, just voted to oppose SB 79, a law legalizing the construction of housing near stations. You can't make this stuff up. Legislators should remember this the next time they come to Sacramento begging for more money.

“But what deeply troubles me now is that for all the steps we've taken toward integration, I've come to believe that we are integrating into a burning house."

Dr. King said this famous quote on March 27th, 1968, mere days before his murder. But the context around the quote is interesting...

They expect - they NEED - the people they threaten to fall in line, like the law firms and universities and media companies and billionaires and Congress did. If you say “No, make me,” they simply do not have a Plan B. TRUMP DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH GUYS TO MAKE YOU.
