Mastery of magic really depends on the individual, because everyone interacts uniquely with their own magic.
If you can use your magic with perfect control and flawlessly achieve all that's possible within your power range, you could say you've truly mastered your Gift.
What does it take to be considered a "master" of your magic system?
Is it about the range of your techniques? The difficulty level? The amount of knowledge in your head? Your ability not to set yourself on fire?
Or perhaps there IS no "mastery"?

There is a hard physical limitation on how much magic one can draw from the ether at once, based on the strength of the Mage-Gift.
Magic also takes a physical toll, especially when drawing a lot of it. Powerful magic-users will find that it's incredibly easy to "overstretch" ... 1/
What limitations did you put on your magic system to keep it from becoming too OP? Is power in short supply? Do spells take a physical toll on the body?
Note that this is about magic done RIGHT. Day 13 will be about when magic goes horribly wrong!

There are known gestures and stances of power that assist with drawing magic from the ether, especially if it's going to be a powerful spell (a large amount of magic).
Generally, specific incantations are not necessary - but that depends on the type of magic.

How is magic actually performed? What kinds of speech or actions are needed to execute a successful spell? An ancient incantation? A hand sign? Martial arts movements?
Or is it enough simply for the caster to THINK their spell into existence?

Literally nothing except yourself and maybe some space to work with (so the power doesn't spill over into someone else). And make sure there's NO silver too close by because it will affect the flow of the magic.
Unless you're doing blood magic (dark sorcery).

Let's talk magical tools! What does someone need to do magic in your system? An arcane focus (e.g. wand, staff, orb)? A book of spells? A musical instrument? A bunch of obscure ingredients?
If you have magical companions, they would count here 😁

I quite like this passage of Albryan and Velda's stated wants... there's yearnings which may or may not quite match up 👀
Fresh from the latest chapter of Goddess of the Dark!

That I don't have words-wise, but the feeling's definitely there - in this specific snippet, Archer's just carried Sabbat through into the bathroom so he can have a bath while his legs're still not working.

All magic flows from the source, which is an existential plane of its own. Beyond that, not much is understood since even magic-users can't communicate directly with this plane.
The Morgei call it their mother goddess, and it sometimes seems like magic has a will of its own... 1/2
This week we're digging more into the nuts & bolts of your magic system! So let's start with the source.
Where exactly does magic "come from" in your world? Where/when does it originate? Does anyone know for sure, or are there only theories?

Raw power isn't the main thing - what a magician can do often depends on their focus and control. Here Albryan demonstrates that.

Nico and Fish get pretty restless if they aren't constantly doing each other tbh 😁
But in all seriousness...
Most of my characters are lazy bums because I have strong religious trauma from being brought up protestant and I need to tell myself it's okay to just exist.

How does your character handle boredom/idleness?
Do they enjoy a lazy day doing nothing? Do they need it, sometimes? Or do they always want to be doing someone, and idleness makes them restless and unsettled?

For my #Atlantis trilogy, the magic is crystal-based because that's part of old Atlantis lore, thanks to some goofy Victorian mystics 😅 I'd be lying if I said I wasn't also inspired by Disney's take on Atlantis.
The system itself is also hugely influenced by alchemy in FMA:B.🧵1/4

I'll stick to just talking about The Witch of Eden Hollow for today's prompt.
🌿As I said the other day, for Elias' magic I was inspired by the nature themes in D&D druids. But I also wanted dive into spirituality and have him follow a goddess that he dedicates his life to. 🧵1/6
Tell us about why you developed this magic system! What drew you to the concepts? Why did you choose to make it the way you did? Were you inspired or influenced by any other works?

My biggest inspirations for this magic system in particular are Mercedes Lackey's books, especially the Tarma & Kethry stories and The Last Herald-Mage.
(If anyone notices some parallels between Vanyel and certain of my own characters, I'm not gonna deny them. 👀)

Magic flows through everyone and everything (like the Force tbh 😁) but only those with the Gift can wield it to their own ends.
For whatever reason, the only race of people who possess the ability to wield magic are the Morgei, who believe that it was a gift from their goddess... 1/
Tell us about who can wield magic in your world!
Is it available to everyone, or only a special few? Is it a gift you're born with, or a skill you can learn? Is the knowledge gatekept in some way?
Don't forget to read & interact with others! 😁

The Dark is more than just simple darkness in the Woods. It is something ancient, powerful and reaching.
It enshrouds the Woods and obscures any natural light from above from breaking through its canopy. It can also be drawn upon by any foolish enough to try.
Vocab time! Tell us about some important terms we need to know to understand your magic system. Obviously, make sure you include the definitions! 😁
As usual, interpret the prompt however makes sense to you! Don't feel limited only to conlang words.
